Awesome ReelPeople don't know what their talking about. I've used this reel for smallmouth and largemouth bass, and pike. Most people complain of how cheap the reel feels or the poor quality. I can tell you that if you are throwing your reel+rod on rocks or the ground and leaving it there, even dropping it in the water, it will get ruined. That goes for all reels. This reel has a great price point, smooth casting, and a decent drag. With a med-heavy rod you can't go wrong. This is obviously not a curado or metanium DC, so don't have those expectations. 100% would buy if looking for a great low price reel.
Fantastic Reel-bad reviews are bunkThese reels are wonderful for their price point. Smooth casting, great distance, and great drag. These reels are light as a feather and very well balanced as well. Just an FYI folks, this is a FRESHWATER reel. If you want it to sound like a rock quarry, like one reviewer stated, go ahead and take a freshwater reel into saltwater. Don’t buy the negativity. This reel is absolutely wonderful.
Waste of moneyPurchased 2 both failed within a week. Plastic gears poor quality, not the same quality when they were made in Sweden.
Nothing wrongNothing wrong with my two reels I bought and if something goes wrong it's already paid for it self , I use it to catch largemouth bass, Catfish from blues to channels bluegills, crappie I enjoy and still work awesome.
HorribleLove Abu but this reel is a POS. Bought two at full price and couldnt be more disappointed. Maybe at a huge sale price, might be worth it but both of mine grind, are loud, wont cast very far and need regular tune-up. Skip this unless you are on a tight budget. As cheap and bullet proof as the Silver Max was, cant believe they sell this POS.
Cast a mile, but filled with rocksConflicted about this reel. First and foremost one of the best casting reels regardless of price point, easy to set up and control backlash, tactile clicks on the spool tension knob, great range of control on the external brakes, and strong drag. Middle of the pack weight and size. Lots of complaints about frame strength in other reviews but I've caught 50+ fish on this reel in the past months dozens of bull reds, 25-30' stripper, and black drum. Now for the bad, even with 10 bearings it feels like a rock quarry inside. It was smooth at first, but immediately went south. I got it on sale with free braid, and had a slamming month of catching fish on a Cashion Icon, but it is the roughest reel I've ever used. I've lubbed and greased, neither really improved it. The cheap graphite frame may actually be the cause of the problem, or maybe other weak bent internals, but I would like to thank for the average joe catching average fish it would hold up. I'm going to stop playing with other brands and just stick to Shimano.
Bad Build QualityI bought this reel when it was on sale for $45. It seemed like a very good deal considering this is originally a $110 reel. Every thing was extremely smooth and remains to be smooth but the structure of this reel didn’t hold. I decided to take off the side panel like you typically do with a new reel and I put it back on. For some reason after that the entire handle including the star drag would move in and out by a few millimeters. This ruined the feel of the anti reverse and I haven’t even had the chance to fish this yet.
Great ReelHad this reel for over a year and throw nothing but topwater on it. Great reel, casts great and reels well. Not the smoothest I have but very comparable the the 8-10 SLX I have but in my case it casts better.
Overpriced graphite reel frame broke 1st timeJunk. Cheap plastic parts. Thin graphite frame. Cheap bearings. The only thing nice is the handle and gears.
The cheap graphite frame will eventually break. I took this reel out and after I caught a 2 lb bass the frame cracked by the level wind. A few more small bass and the reel frame broke. For a $99 ballpark there are a lot better options with Aluminum frames.

Comments: Got one just to try it out. It's a little disappointing compared to an SLX, and a little more expensive. Maybe this will feel good to you, but for me it felt a little cheap, and was hard to dial in.

Comments: This reel can cast a mile and feels great in the hand. Be sure to dial the tension and brake tight when out of the box and loosen out with a few casts. I have 5 of them now. You won't be disappointed.

Comments: I have never been an Abu Garcia guy but this is probably my new favorite reel. Especially for the price. The thing that surprised me the most was how far I could cast it with such little effort.

Comments: This reel is better than all my reels I have a few Shimano's that are in the 250 dollar range and this reel out preforms all of them never buying a Shimano again abu only for now on
