Overview

For more than 50 years, anglers have relied on the Aborgast Jitterbug. It still sets the standard for all night-time topwater lures, and is also a well documented big fish catcher during the day as well. The Jitterbug's double cupped lip, placed at precisely the correct angle, produces the loud, rhythmic, surface-busting sound that is proven to be irresistible to every known surface feeding fish…especially bass. Available in a range of time-tested colors and two sizes, the Aborgast Jitterbug continues to ignite explosive strikes anytime it hits the water.

A ClassicSome things never go out of style. I'd trust my life to a black Jitterbug at night, especially in small water. You don't need any color but black, but tie on a green or white belly during the day if you think it matters. New hooks are a must.

Great classic surface lureThe Jitterbug is a classic lure. The 5/8 oz. version has yielded many large largemouth bass for me, the past 52 years. Yes, it puts out a small wake, but it really should not be classified as a wakebait, in my opinion. It's just a great surface lure.

Comments: I have had many crazy evenings/nights on the water with the Jitterbug. I love them and I hate them, with crap hooks, totally outdated hook mounts, and flimsy metal lip. Will continue to use the !@#$ Jitterbug, but PLEASE River2Sea or Lucky Craft, make a modern version of this!!!! One positive side note: don't be afraid to try the small, single-hook version. With the big lip, those things come through weeds really well - gets fish that the 2x treble J-bug cannot reach.

Comments: This is one of if not the first lure i bought 40 years ago.  Some things NEVER go out of style and this thing still does it.  I have a red/white jointed that's at least 35 years old and a black one maybe older than that.  i really don't think the color matters, its the noise and cadence that attracts them.

From: Jamie - 8/25/19

Comments: All you need is the green-white and black colors. Green during the day, black at night. I would swap out the standard hooks for red hooks and add an split ring on the black ones for night fishing. Biggest size for night, medium for day-time. Bass love these!

From: Jared - Pennsylvania 2/13/19

Comments: Great bait other than the fact it almost impossible to change out the garbage hooks that come on it

From: Tanner 4/10/18

Comments: Casts great, small splash, amazing walking action & almost instantaneous hook ups. They really smack this thing!

From: Lil bill: Charlotte, nc 8/14/17

Comments: Great lure, caught one last night on the black color at sunset. Very good lure for calm water.

From: Brandon - Wisconsin 5/13/17

Comments: I caught one bass that was 4.5 pounds on this lure. The piece holding the front plate together broke after hauling in the 4.5 pounder. Upgrade the treble hooks! Has great action and leaves a nice bubble trail but not very durable.

From: Ivory: Indianapolis, IN 12/13/16

Comments: I caught a 5lb 5oz this morning at 5:30 in the dark. The back screw came out but landed it ok. Tighten all the screws and add a dab of Super Glue. Also add Owner Hyper Wire split rings and #4 high quality red EWG hooks. This will greatly increase your hook up ratio.

From: John: Germantown, MD 9/8/15

Comments: Smallmouth just detonate on these things at night.  I recommend that you only use them while wet wading...that way it won't matter when a bass slams it so hard that you lose bladder control.  You have been warned!

From: Brad: Gate City, VA

Comments: I was fishing one of theses babys out of a kayak on a quiet foggy morning, then SPLASH and I catch a nice 18" largemouth that was roughly 3 1/2 lbs. great lure. do not hesitate to buy

From: Adam: WI

Comments: Still one of the best fishing lures ever invented. once you modify it, it becomes a deadly weapon for night fishing. I cut off the stock hooks, add a split ring, and put on twin size 2 owner stinger trebles(650 size jitterbug). color doesnt matter as long as it's black.

From: Cullen: Ashburn, VA

Comments: I have used the black 650 and the black Jitterbug XL (Musky Jitterbug) for fifty years at night and in low light conditions and the result has been some very hefty bass. Don't throw these at night if you have a heart condition. Also, do not strike until you feel the weight of the fish and your rod loads up, because you don't want these weapons whistling back at you in the dark.  The only thing I don't like about the large black Jitterbugs is that gators are fond of them too.  Oh, and the stock hooks work, but are dull, sharpen them.

From: South GA

Comments: I adore this lure, but, I still wonder why tacklewarehouse doesn't carry Hula Poppers.. those are probably the best poppers on the market.

From: Eric: Everett, Ma, USA

Comments: Probably the best night fishing bait and one of the most fun to fish period there is a reason this thing made it to be a classic.

From: Jhon: MO

Comments: An absolute classic, unchanged for a reason.  I've been fishing these for three decades, and there's no reason to ever change it.  Black is best, day or night, since the fish are looking from underneath, white belly is decent when it's dark.  Fish it with a slow, stop and go retrieve, and get ready for some fun.  If I had to feed my family on bass and pike (not a great thought) and could only have one lure, this would be the one.

From: Eric: Duluth, MN

Comments: after 50 years on the market if you look at alot of the top water lures many have copied the way this lure works i have rigged the bait with single weedless hooks this lure will out fish all!!!!!!! of the top lures listed  if worked slowly through the slop and weed edges excellent  lure period  have caught more 5-6 pounders on this lure than any other

From: Jim: Mercer, WI

Comments::a great night time bait! this lure does its damage in ponds and around tules and weed beds. the only other bait that is better is the heddon crazy crawler because you can reel it slower and still get the plop-plop sound you desire plus you can tune the wings. in fact, the crazy crawler makes more of a chirping sound rather than a plop, which is deadly. the newer jitterbugs have an internal rattle which is a bonus. it also comes in a 1 oz. size with side hooks for giant sized fish--

From: Wes: Salinas, CA

Comments: Finally, what took you so long tackle warehouse, get with the program man!!! I am glad that tackle warehouse is starting to carry this classic lure.  The price is great for what is a top, top-water killer.  I suggest you buy 2 of each color.  Once you get one of these in your possession  be sure that you can handle the heart attack that will surely come when the fish strikes your  Jitterbug.  Make sure you hone those hooks, they are dull in factory form.  Retrieve the jitterbug slowly, a standard 4:1 ratio reel is best, make sure the sound that the bug" make is in a plop, plop, plop rythm.  When you get a strike, don't stand there with your mouth open, don't set the hook in a vicious manner, or you will lose that fish :0 Keep reeling and you'll hook him.  Buy the largest size Jitterbug for extra large fish.  Good luck.
