Good starting point…This was my first experience with fluorocarbon years ago. I never really had any issues with it back then. I recently bought some on a trip to reelfoot lake in Tn. I left my other line at home for some reason. It was all that I could find in that area. It did fine, but it’s not top of the line. If you have never experienced flouro and you would like to see the difference with breaking the bank, it’s worth it.
Get something betterI have tried this line for both leaders and mainline and it does not perform. Breaks when clinching knots, even when wet. The line has a TON of memory, making it difficult to manage. It has horrible abrasion resistance as well. Caused me to break off many baits mid-cast. Buying better line will save you money in the long run, considering the amount of baits that I've broken off mid-cast. I tried to go cheap and it costed me :(
Much better options out thereI've used this stuff a handful of times over the years to see if quality has improved from it's initial release ages ago. Unfortunately it still delivers the same disappointing results. Will continue to rely on other more reliable options like Sunline and Seaguar. I wouldn't waste money on this stuff.
Horrible LineThis stuff breaks into 2 like glass. I broke off mutiple fish in a day that would have not broke off on red label. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this.
Vanish flurocarbonBerkley has been around for ages especially with the awesome trilene XL that carried most of us from the start. For the price and the quality with it Vanish flurocarbon works just as good as most others. Never had any issues what so ever since it came out. Works great for leader material also for both Baitcasters and spinning reels alike. If you have never tried this you wouldn't know that but you surely won't be wasting money if you do. Great quality and price compared to most.
Never had a problem with it.Been through many 17lb spools. I use it as leader line for braid and also as full spools on baitcasters. It’s been good to me. I’ve landed several 3-5lbers and had no issues. Wet your knots and make super snug. No problem. Can’t beat it for the price.
Strong line, but you need to tie the right knBeen using Vanish forever, best bang for the buck I've found. I tie a double pitzen knot and I've have 0 issues bass fishing with it. I fish mostly heavily wooded lakes and I've pulled bass from the gnarliest stumps and lay downs with it. The double pitzen is and excellent knot look it up it'll keep you from losing lures.
HorribleI bought the 14lb line and it is horrible. It breaks when tying knots, I can’t imagine landing a 1-2 lb spot. Lost my brand new swim jig yesterday morning when I barely snagged underwater brush on the first cast.
What are those negative reviews about?I purchased this line in 8lb test because it was cheap. Not disappointed at all. For the previous reviewer, you should always test your knots no matter the line. I've caught many fish on this and its never broken on me. Knots strength is good. Abrasion resistance is ok. The only thing is that when you first spool it up, let it sit in warm water a few minutes to shape it to your spool, otherwise it will twist and tangle when you cast. Whenever I get a tangle and have to cut it, I use whatever I can for leader line. Works great for the price. As other reviewers said, there are definitely better lines on the market but this works great for the price.
Tough Line!I have used Vanish for many years...6 pound to 40 pound test. It has worked well for me over the years. The only negative I have seen is that it is a little stiffer and harder than some other flourocarbon lines I have tried. That may be the problem as it may have less stretch than some. Knots have tied carefully and have to be tested after tying.
broken lines and broken heartsI've been playing with this line 1# its cheap 2# its available in a lot of places 3# I can't find 17lb test Fluorocarbon in less expensive lines. I've tried 8 lb test up to 17 lb and since I've been using it, I've broken off quite a few fish ( 5 pounds plus ) vs my tried and true Seguar Red Label. I don't think I've ever broken off with red label. I have to really try and break red label when I hung up.
Yesterday I was in a tournament and the fishing was tough. I knew it was going to come down to one big bite. I got that bite and broke off on my hook set. It jumps and its a 5+. I shake it off and re-tie. Next cast - 7 +. I take it easy don't horse her. I grab my net and POP!!!!
15 pounds won and I lost over 12 pounds. I stripped all my bait casters down that had this line. I"ll use the rest of the 17 as backing. 8-12 I threw away.

Comments: Have fished this line since it came on the market YEARS ago. Are there better fluorocarbon lines out there? Absolutely, just not at this price. It's the only line I use for bottom contact baits including deep cranking. The line is a little heavy imo but my bait gets down quick without restriction from the line. Knot strength and durability is excellent. No need to pay more for flouro.
