Solid reelLove the BGs, use these exclusively. As a Florida fisherman these are not my primary weapon system but as needed these are my go to spinning reels.

Very ImpressiveThis was the first official spinning reel that I bought with all the knowledge that I gathered through the years. I am pleasantly surprised by the performance of this reel: it's light, durable, well constructed, and this season alone I was able to land 70+ fish of multiple species. I would definitely recommend this to a beginner, intermediate, or even a professional angler.

I keep buying moreI said I was going to buy more of these Diawa black gold spinning reels and I now have 2 2500’s and 1 2000 size reels. Love them all and disagree with these guys that don’t like the paddle handles. I like paddle handles that I can find and quickly get a grip on so my fingers don’t slide off. I also love their smoothness and sealed drag system. Great price point too, making it easier to buy more than one.

ExcellenceThis reel has been absolutely amazing. Extremely smooth casting and retrieving. This real allows me to be me accurate with my cast along with being able to get distance with a weightless Senko or Tube. Just having this reel in your hand show you how well built it was. Daiwa did an awesome job with the price and performance of this reel.

Weight, rod/reel pairingI used to be a Shimano guy, now use Daiwa reels (Regal, Legalis, Exceler, Eliminators and BGs). For guys not liking the BG 2500 weight, try downsizing the reel. I've got a 1500 BG on a 7'1" ML Tatula, and balance is perfect. The smaller spool paired with modern downsized spinningrod guides, and I have to feather the line so it doesn't cast too far!

These reviewers are lost…These reels are solid reels for their price point. The problem that I can’t understand is why people complain about the T handle on particular sizes. Do you guys not know that you can easily get a single knob from Gomexus and many other manufacturers right on Amazon/Ebay?. They have a T handle because they’re designed for saltwater, but can be solid reels for freshwater too.

A great reel in the 70’s is even better nowI got one of these back in the 1970’s and it was great, but it’s even better and smoother now. Sure it’s a little heavier, but that helps it balance a longer and tip heavy rod. Love the sealed waterproof drag. I will be buying more.

Great reel!I already own a BG 3500 series and use it for inshore fishing. I recently purchased a BG2000 series reel and outfitted it on a light spinning rod thinking I would turn it into a trout rod for an upcoming trip to Louisiana. Worked like a charm, smooth, casted well and we caught plenty of trout under a popping cork paired with artificial lures. What I was not expecting however, was that the bull reds would also be in the area the trout were and that we would catch them. I caught multiple bull reds with this reel and was able to handle them all and successfully release them. These are my new favorite spinning reels!

Comments: I've purchased 5 of these reels over the last few years. I was looking for a good quality reel for the money. Wow I really like these reels. Very well built I fully expect them to outlive me. Possibly the best mid price reel on the market right now. Diawa has very much impressed me with what they build.

From: Gary : Michigan 9/9/23

Comments: I got my first bg last June and fell in love. I now have two and plan on getting another in a larger size for striper in March. Super smooth and casts like a dream even weightless plastics. Highly recommend!

From: Elijah: Amsterdam Ny 3/28/23

Comments: Really like the BG spinning reel in the 2500 size.....EXCEPT THE 'T' HANDLE! Very disappointing oversized slab of plastic that felt un-natural. => Went on the Daiwa website and looked at available parts to see if they offered the standard (non-T) handle like the 1500/2000 sizes. Well, they don't, so I called customer service and explained the issue. She didn't know and couldn't tell in her system if the standard handle for the 1500/2000 would fit the 2500. I took the chance and ordered it....wait for it....IT FITS PERFECTLY! I can't wait to try it out this Spring. Go for it guys - lots of complaints on the reviews......Cheers.

From: JC: NE OH 1/13/23

Comments: 2500 w/ a dobyn's fury rod can pretty much throw anything (jerk, worms, jigs) a country mile w/ good action. have caught many a hog donkers so far w/ this reel

From: Dom: NJ 10/19/22

Comments: Solid reel for the price. I wish the 2500 and smaller didn't have the t handle, but that's my only minor complaint. Have purchased 4 of these over the past 3 years and feel for the money it's the best I've come across. Haven't tried Penn but these do everything i need from panfish to steelhead. Haven't really noticed the weight being an issue if matched to the correct rod.

From: Fishtrap: Michigan 7/29/22

Comments: Good solid frame but the extra weight is the trade off. Oversize handle takes some getting use to. Spool is top notch for putting braid on. Weight is the issue with this reel.

From: Christopher : Salisbury, NC 8/3/22

Comments: Solid reel. Perhaps a tad heavy but quality components are used. Love my BGs in all sizes.

From: Unknown: 6/4/22

Comments: Great reel for the $$! Very smooth with excellent drag. This reel has became my go to for my finesse bass fishing needs. Solid reel.

From: Tim: Cossa River, AL 5/22/22

Comments: reel is a little heavy....but that's where the cons end...buttery smooth and reliable....used it for 2 weeks in salt water, and it performed flawlessly and continues to....great bang for the buck with this reel, its a real pleasure to use.

From: Dennis: Oak Creek, WI 5/9/22

Comments: One of my go-to's for finesse tactics and catching smallies. If you don't mind a little extra weight than this reel is for you. I have the 2500 screwed onto a Fenwick HMG 7MF with 15lb suffix 832 hi vis, and this is a finesse dream come true. Yes it gets a little heavy after a while, but very rarely I am holding this rod and reel for long periods, I have have other set ups for that. The drag is top notch for this price range, If you blind folded me, I am not sure I could tell the difference In the smoothness between this and the Tatula. The BG is a tank and is so far the most durable spinning reel I have purchased. Besides the weight the only downside I would say is the reel is so butterly smooth that sometimes gravity alone will pull the handle down causing your line reel up a half turn. Hope this helps. Last quick thing, if you have any black and gold coloring in your spinning rod you can't go wrong with this reel, it just makes it all Pop.

From: Matt: Green Bay, WI 3/13/22

Comments: Quickly became one of my all time favorite spinning reels. Smooth as butter, cast like a dream, bail is rock solid, and just looks sharp with the contrasting black and gold. I will be back for more !

From: Jeff: California 3/12/22

Comments: I'm happy with this reel! Nice smooth drag and casts great with a .25 shaky head

From: Unknown: 1/19/22

Comments: Normally I'm somewhat of a reel snob, thinking you have to pay a minimum of $200 to get something decent, well this $110 Daiwa BG spinning reel changed my mind and left me wondering if my $450 Certate was a smart purchase. I got the 2500 size and am impressed with the smoothness and especially the drag, Daiwa spinning products seem to excel in this regard. Some may find the weight a little high, but remember you're getting mostly aluminum construction, I've used some of the composite body reels and noticed the flexure, not good. Can't really comment on longevity, but the build quality leads me to believe I can expect many years of dependable service, this reel is definitely a keeper.

From: Tom: Fredericksburg, VA 12/6/21

Comments: Ordered 2 reels (BG3000) for Snook/Reds & Trout. Excellent drags, very smooth operation. With care these reels should last a long time. Two thumbs up/

From: D: Everglades, FL 10/7/21

Comments: I got the BG 2500 to be used for surf fishing with Nanofil 17lb line. Reel size is similar to 3000 from other brands as well as line capacity. Its a little heavier than others. The drag work well and one of the smoothest reeling. It has a small reverse level that I never use, I put a dose of grease there to protect saltwater get in. It hard to beat this quality of reel for the price & other brands

From: Greg: Santa Maria, CA 10/2/21

Comments: Wow,this reel is much higher end than I expected! Best price online here at tackle warehouse. Perfect match with my 13 series drop shot Med fast action rod. Wish I had found this reel before wasting time with similar priced 13 & lews reels!

From: Unknown: Mineola, NY 9/13/21

Comments: This is a very comfortable, and solid feeling reel. No play, extremely smooth return, and the color choice looks great. I paired it up with a dobyns fury 702sf and it's my favorite spinning combo I have ever used. I have it setup for a dropshot/finesse rod for bass and I only use it for freshwater

From: Bobby: Maryland 9/2/21

Comments: Love this reel! Very smooth and plenty of backbone to land big bass. Will be buying again.

From: Unknown: 8/3/21

Comments: The new BG seems just as dependable as the original great real for the price

From: Mike: 7/16/21

Comments: I have 2 of the 2500 size reels paired with 7'6" M action rods for inshore fishing the Big Bend area of FL. If you are on the fence about ordering one of these, JUST DO IT ALREADY. I have mine spooled with 10lb PowerPro braided line and it will cast an absolute country mile effortlessly. Smooth as can be, quiet, and not as heavy as you would think. Both of mine have held up extremely well to saltwater use. For the money, you cannot find another reel on the market that comes close to providing the same performance of the BG series. You will not be disappointed.

From: Unknown 7/6/21

Comments: Clean and smooth.  Long casting.  Nice reel for the price.

From: Unknown: 6/29/21

Comments: I've been very pleased with the Diawa BG spinning reel I purchased. Very smooth and durable for what I believe is a mid priced spinning reel.

From: RB: South Carolina 5/23/21

Comments: cons: its heavy and a tad slow in the gear ratio department (still better than the industry standard 5.2:1) pros:  literally everything else.  I cannot believe how utterly smooth the reel is...the big handle is also just wonderful in hand.    The reel has quality and smoothness normally reserved for reels that cost twice as much or more.   And its also a great looking reel.  Well done Daiwa.

From: Unknown: 5/11/21

Comments: Smooth and durable reel.

From: Donny: Gaffney, SC 4/28/21

Comments: Great reel. perfect size for wacky rigs, shakey heads and drop shot.

From: Ted: Forsyth, GA 4/18/21

Comments: I have three 2500 BG Daiwa I love them, they have a very smooth drag. I would recommend them you can't beat the price.

From: Laurence: Milton, VT 2/23/21

Comments: I bought the 1500 and 2500 a month ago. They have both worked flawless and the draft is incredible in this reel! I have caught some really nice walleye and like on it so far  biggest was 28in walleye it didn't stand a chance with the drag system on it! I have fuego, fuego Lt, ballistic, BG, and a tatula spinning reels  this one is by far my favorite I will be replacing some of my other reels with the BG soon! Shout out to other people writing reviews on here for the products! It can really help with the buying decision!

From: Ryan: Oakdale, MN 2/7/21

Comments: Purchased two new Daiwa bg3000s 2 years ago. After about the first 25 to 30 hours of fishing or should I say casting 1 oz spoons off the surf, both reels started to bind with any type of resistance from the spoon or a fish. After about 30 to 40 hours of fishing my wife's reel stopped rotating. The spool modulator gear bearing support stem had broken from the right main reel housing casting. Needless to say I have a pile of spare parts for the other reel that no one wants to use because it's hard to reel in . Just as a note, these reels are professionally maintained cleaned and stored in the proper manner as to extend their life and we had put very little time on them. I have a Penn 3500 that I have been using for 35 years that was given to me by my dad after he was done using it and has hundreds and hundreds surf casting hours on it. No problems with that one though but I guess they don't make them like they used to.

From: Dave: 1/22/21

Comments: These reels are amazing, only con is the weight, lil heavy. Bet she lasts two decades though. Cheers.

From: Ryan: Georgia 1/19/21

Comments: I really like the reel it is vary smooth. But it is a little heavy but for the price it is a great reel.

From: Unknown: 1/13/21

Comments: I use this reel a lot for freshwater applications in the 3000 size and I've used the larger sizes for saltwater fishing for barracuda, large tarpon, and shark.  I don't think it can be beat for the money.  Such a smooth, durable, great drag, high performing reel year after year and fish after giant fish. The only drawback I think a person could find is it is heavier than some reels but personally I think a little heavier reel isn't bad most of the time cause personally it helps with the balance point on most rods and a person wouldn't notice a couple ounces more weight. Outside of maybe a rare application here and there, It's the only model spinning reel I'm buying anymore.

From: Josh: Williston, ND 1/7/21

Comments: Great smooth reel!  Love using it and handles fish well. It's a steal at this price.

From: Unknown: Texas 12/30/20

Comments: These are reels with proven extended service in saltwater. Not the lightest or fastest retrieve ratio, but tough and reliable. Reasonably priced too!

From: Ham: Flippin, AR 12/30/20

Comments: Super smooth drag - sort of surprised how nice it is.  Screw in handle is a big step up from some of the cheaper Daiwa spinning reels.  Handle knob is awesome.  Didn't want to spend a ton of money on spinning reels so I grabbed one of these and it's everything I need for finesse applications.

From: Mikey: Bass City 12/24/20

Comments: Great reel! I have the BG 2500,4000 and 8000. Some of the best reels I have ever had. Good strong work horses and are always smooth reeling.

From: Nicolas: San Luis Obispo, CA 12/23/20

Comments:I purchased the BG 2500 because of all the great reviews so I had to give it a try. I fish mostly for largemouth bass and this size is what they recommended. I've had it for a few months now and no lie it's a really nice smooth tough reel. For the price there's really nothing else in it's class. I would highly recommend it.

From: Ben: 8/28/20

Comments:I have has the reel working on 4 years and i have put it through the ringer. I have the 3500 and it has been an absolute beast. i have gone wading with it, it has been submerged more times than i can remember, i have regularly taken it catfishing for big flatheads and channels because of how sturdy it it and i know it can handle super hard hooksets with ease. I had it paired with a shimano exage mh and the pole broke b4 this reel gave out. At the beginning of the 4th year i finally had to break down and oil and grease it because of all the sand i have had it in. Imo this is one of the most durable reels for the money you can find flat out..

From: Brandon: Virginia 8/2/20

Comments: Tried this reel after have constant issues with many other reels, clicking and clunking and very bad flex... So I figured for the price who cares about if it clunks. Absolutely love this reel, I have a 2500 and a 2000. Size, both reels are the same size with just a diff size spool. I have 1 for fresh and 1 for salt and I do not rinse or spray my reels after a trip and I have had zero issues with either of them! And they are smooth as butter, Steez smooth. Just nothing but great things to say about this reel, try one you will like it!

From: Olman: Florida 1/28/20

Comments:Dont waste your money on this reel! Its loud when reeling in fish (3 months old) and reel handle is big and heavy so it wants to turn on it's own when it's in the 12 o clock position. If you want to spend under $100 on a spinning reel, get the shimano Sahara or even the sienna is smoother than this.

From: Unknown: California 11/3/19

Comments:love this reel! have 1 aand will purchase a few more for sure. smooth and tough feel to it.

From:Don: Angola, In 8/21/19

Comments:Very nice reel for the price.Have nothing bad to say about the reel.Like the ABS spool design.Very smooth.Pairs up well with the Duckett microwave guide rod.

From:Unknown: 8/1/19

Comments:Just bought the reel (2500) and tried it out with 20 pound braid. Very smooth and looks like it's built like a truck. It is a little heavier than other daiwa models but it's due to the aluminium and quality.

From: Yamir:Miami, FL 7/10/19

Comments:Just got this reel, used it a couple times.. very smooth very nice !

From: Cal: WI 10/25/17

Comments:Smooth and casts a mile. A great reel at this price!

From: Dave: Kalamazoo 10/7/17

Comments: Fantastic reel; Great quality and ridiculously smooth!

From: Jake: SF Bay Area 6/15/17

Comments:This reel is SOLID!!!,its as smooth as my ballistic.

From: Michael: ORMOND BEACH 4/11/17

Comments:Love this reel. If you love the older model bg reel, you will love this new model even more. Super smooth reel, very sturdy and on top of that the price is very affordable. Feels like a top end reel for the price of around 100 dollars. Would recommend this reel to everyone.
