Comments: Excellent Rod- Super Lightweight and you feel everything. From Rod Blank itself, cork handle, and guides are superior in Quality and craftsmanship. I purchased the 7 Med Hvy. It is such a perfect all around rod. It's paired with a Shimano SLX DC Reel and 15lb Flouro. I use it primarily as my worm/creature bait rod down here in Florida. I own all of Dobyns series rods. You can't go wrong and won't be disappointed if you've never owned one. Buy Dobyns Rods only at Tackle Warehouse they have an exceptional service dept if you ever need them. I've caught some Largemouth Tanks with this Rod and Had no problem landing em. Thanks Gary Dobyns and Tackle Warehouse!

Comments: I use the 734 primarily for finesse jigs or swimbaits in the range of 3/8-1/2 oz. I have a hard time describing how smoothly this rod loads up and casts those baits. I expect the 744 (jig rod special w/ extra fast action) is more in line with what most people want out of a jig rod, but the 734 has a great balance of weight, sensitivity, and versatility.

Comments: If you are buying your first higher end rod as a bass angler, you'd be hard pressed to find a rod with the blend of action, sensitivity, and balance that a Champion XP possesses. The 704 or 734 are the best jack of all trades rods in the Dobyns lineup, depending on individual preferences about length. If you don't need a Swiss Army knife that could pitch jigs and frog, but could very much use one that can throw a crankbait or a 5" wacky worm, the 703 or 733 are your jam. If you don't like the split grip, they make a full grip (which is also better if you are a fan of the sub 7oz reels that are more common today). Also, disregard the reviews about warranty validity. Dobyns offers two warranties on every rod they make. The first is you ship them the rod, and if it's clearly defective, they replace it at no cost. The second is a no-hassle replacement where you pay a flat fee (cost depends on the model) and shipping, and they replace it no questions. When you replace with the no hassle, you don't even need to ship the whole rod...you just cut off the label section, which easily fits in a cheap bubble mailer. If you're smart enough to realize that 90% of broken rods come from rods lockers, car doors, clumsy feet or highsticking fish...then you are smart enough to admit when you make mistakes or when it's actually a defective product.

Comments: These couple bad reviews must not know how to fish. If you broke the rod on a 2lber.... then don't high stick your rod while fighting a fish. These rods are bullet proof, guides hold up to braid no problem for years. My oldest champion xp is four years old still in perfect working order, and has only seen 65lb braid since day one as a frog rod. The 735 med/hvy extra fast action is the best do all rod period. Sensitive with plenty of backbone. Pairs perfectly with a lews custom pro or ti.

Comments: I have 4 7ft mh champion xp had one break while fighting a 2lber. The action, weight and sensitivity are great. Only had them a few months. I have to agree about the service. The people were nice but I don't feel that the rod broke due to user error. But $70 + 10 to ship and they replace the rod. I'll be looking elsewhere for future rod purchases. From: Dustin: Eads, TN 10/14/20Comments: Nice taper, and very balanced. Great durable Fuji K guides. Cork is just OK. Great actions for lots of different applications.

Comments:Guides aren't durable. Terrible customer service. Do not recommend. From: Gary: Mountain Home, AR 3/18/20
Comments: I was looking for a 7' casting rod to use in place of my medium action spinning rod to change things up, and landed on the 702 Medium. This is a perfect rod for allapplications I would use my medium action spinning rod for. I use it for poppers/small Zara spooks, 3/16-1/4oz finesse jigs with medium wire hooks, crankbaits, hard jerkbaits, and light texas rigs. I have it paired up with 30lb PP original, and usually a 12lb leader or sometimes a 10lb leader. It's a really nice finesse jigs rod, it has a nice fast action, with some give in the tip, and great back bone. It doesn't seem like many people talk about 2 power casting rods, I couldn't find much info about them.

Comments:I just purchased a Dobyns Champion XP Split Cast Rod 7' Med Hvy 703 rod and must say it is pretty sweet.I like to use a variety of rods, SixGill, Dobyns Fury, and a few others, this is my first champion.I truly love all of my rods but only have a few high dollar rods, 3 to be exact; my SixGill Siren, Scythe and now Dobyns Champion. The Champion is everything I expected and more, I will likely purchase more in the future. From:Eric: 7/13/19
Comments:I bought the XP704 to mainly use for vibrating jigs in the grass.Bam! this is a winner, I'veonly had it for a month and it has delivered like a Champion.I have cycled through a dozen or so rods looking for the perfect action that had enough backbone and tip and this is it.I have had 27 hook ups and have landed 26 of them = 96% landing ratio. For my application, I give it ***** stars and would recommend.

Comments:I truly love the blanks on the Dobyns rods but continue to have guide issues on the Champion series casting rods. I had 2 inserts shatter on my Champion 765 with 20# P Line 100% fluorocarbon. I purchased a Champion 744 this spring for spooks and had the second guide completely pull out from the wrap and epoxy. I was using 40# braid to a 20# mono leader via a double uni. As I said, love the blank but shipping rods from Wisconsin to Dobyns is not working.

Comments:Their customer service is wonderful. Unless it changed over the winter. If you send the rod back and they determine its their fault, boom free rod. If it's your fault, and don't lie because karma sucks, replacement is 90 bucks.
From: Andy4/11/18
Comments: Just had an awful experience with the customer service with dobyns. Tried to get my rod replaced under warranty (tip broke an 1-1/2" down after removing a rod sock). Where it broke was at the seem of the tape holding the guide which seemed like a complete weak spot. If that isn't a manufacturing defect, i don't know what is... 250$ for a rod i've used 5 times and they won't even settle this under their warranty. Nothing like the customer service you get from St. Croix. Very upset about the whole experience. won't purchase doybns again. If you think you're buying this rod for the warranty as well, you're wrong...

Comments:I only use Dobyns rods. The Champion XP is by far my favorite. If you're like any other angler and are having a tough time choosing. Trust me and choose this rod. The customer service with Dobyns is incredible. These rods are aesthetically pleasing, and have all the traits you look for in a rod. They are very light, very sensitive, and are tough! Do your self a favor and add a Champion to your cart!
From: Alec: Texas 7/29/17
Comments:I own and assortment of rods from diawa, gloomis, castaway, and st croix but the dobyns line is my all time favorite over all else. I own the 734 and the 703. Have the 703 paired with a lew pro tournament G and the 734 is paired with the shimano Metanium MGL. The rods are light, well balanced, and as sensitive as it gets. Worth every penny! Definitely pick one up you won't be disappointed!

Comments:Got the 683c for skipping docks. I'm very impressed has the tip to sling baits under docks and the backbone to pull fish out. Very well balanced rod.
From: Unknown 3/18/17
Comments:Dobyns Champion Series Rods are hands down the best rods for the money. Just received my 2nd 735c sh from TW this a great flipping & skipping rod for jigs. My wife also is my partner so I have to own 2 of each rod. All there rods are great for what there purpose is & if in question just call dobyns & they will get you into the right rod.
From: Ace: VA 5/19/16
Comments:Was in a need for a new rod to skip docks for the upcoming season & decided to get the 703C SH XP. The new XP with the longer handle seem to be a little more fitting than the Champions Casting. The Guides are about the same dimension as the Champions before. I have it paired with a chronarch ci4 & is very light. Great tip to load up & cast well and good backbone too. 703C SH XP is a great all around rod.
