Elite Series standout and drop shot master, Aaron Martens, developed the Gamakatsu Aaron Martens TGW Drop Shot Hook. As Martens says, it's "improved my hook-ups by 30 to 40% ... I rarely miss a fish with these hooks."
The Gamakatsu Aaron Martens TGW Drop Shot Hook features a point that's slightly angled out for optimum effectiveness along with Gamakatsu's exclusive TGW (Tournament Grade Wire) that has 20% less diameter for easier hook penetration without any loss of hook strength. The Gamakatsu Aaron Martens TGW Drop Shot Hook also features Gamakatsu's proprietary Nano Smooth Coat, a finish that's slick with less resistance than conventional hooks. Nano Smooth Coat further enhances hook penetration making the Gamakatsu Aaron Martens TGW Drop Shot Hook one of the very best drop shot hooks available.
Comments: I agree with almost all of the positive comments about these hooks with one MAJOR exception. Yes, they are very sharp and have a great geometry to initially hook fish. But, here's where I diverge from the positive reviews. The barb on these hooks is too small and the fish tend to throw them very easily. After losing multiple fish on them, I had to switch.

Comments: Love these hooks. I like the more matte like finish that they have. From: Unknown: 9/9/20
Comments: These hooks are fantastic! I tie a snell knot with all finesse bare hook tactics with these hooks and I have no issues. A snell will help the hook kick up when you set it and you'll have the fish in the top of the mouth and they'll stay pinned despite the smaller barb. They are phenomenal for all finesse tactics!

Comments: Best Drop Shot or Neko hook period. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Yes. Never had a single issue. Been using them for 2 years now.

Comments: After losing yet another good fish on these today, felt the need to review. I bought these when originals were unavailable. These hooks are terrible. Put up against the original drop/split shot hooks, these are already slightly bent out in design. Hook up is fine, but the fish jump right off. Retied with an original and caught the fish. Stick with what you know works, in my opinion.

Comments: Great hooks! And will always use anything Aaron uses! They keep the fish pinned and they hook em well. A little bit of a heavier wire hook, so you might wanna step up your rod and line. They don't bend out like the normal gamakatsu Dropshot hooks.

Comments: Per Charles Barkley, this hook is turrible. The nano coating on it really minimizes the barb causing fish to jump off. Lost what looked to be the biggest smallie I ever had hooked in the FLW on St. Clair and feel that it very well could have been because of the barb. Switched over to Trokar and haven't looked back. No thanks!

Comments: Lost 80% on Champlain last 2 weeks with these hooks in 1 and 1/0. Played with 2 different Dobyns in 702 and 703 rods and line setups with same results. The same results happen with the Gamakatsu weighted wacky hooks in 1/16.(hooks breaking also) Never had this problem with original split/drop hooks and the Gen 1 Wacky hooks. Not sure if it's the New coating or smaller barbs but there's an issue with G Finesse series. If you dig into forums and reviews same issues are happening. This is not a bash as all my tackle revolves around Gammakatsu hooks!

Comments: By far the best dropshot hooks I've used, caught a 5 and 3 back to back and they held up excellent caught about 20 fish on them super sharp and worth the 4$
From: Unknown 7/5/18
Comments: I have lost the last 3 four pound fish I have hooked on this hook. Been in the game a long time, and these hooks aren't good. I did not read the reviews before using them, but I promise if you use these, you will have fish come off. Sharp yes, barb is garbage!!!
From: Unknown - Benton Harbor, MI 6/7/18
Comments: Best drop shot hooks IMO. Those that are complaining don't know how to fish. If you loose fish on these its user error and not a problem with the hook.
From: Unknown: 1/15/18
Comments: I love Aaron Marten but I would not put my name to these hooks. Like him, I have won on Lake Champlain with the drop shot being one of my techniques. I bought these hooks on special order when they were first introduced and I can not begin to tell you how many slobs I have had to watch come off. Barb is to small. Very frustrating. Stick with the split/drop shot hooks by Gamakatsu and avoid these little heartbreakers!!!! I also tried the Owner mosquito hooks and they, too, do not perform like the split/drop shot hooks. Trust me on this one my fellow fishing peers and tight lines to you all the way in the boat!!!!!!

Comments: Per one of the reviews below, this hook does have a barb. The barb is smaller than the Gama Split Shot/Drop Shot hook but it does have a barb. When Martens designed this hook he wanted a smaller barb so not to hurt the fish. Do to the thin wire and sharper point a smaller barb works fine. You shouldn't lose fish. It's a very nice hook and lighter wire than most drop shot hooks. I recommend them. Tks.
From: John: Gaithersburg 3/21/17
Comments: These hooks are superior to any dropshot hooks around the fish always get hooked in the roof of the mouth so deep you will end up breaking the hook trying to remove it which sucks but at the same time you won't loose any fish if you do it's gonna be your fault this is the only hook you will ever use again if you just try it
From: Max: Washington 12/15/16
Comments: The best drop shot hook I have ever used. The changed hook geometry has increased my hooking percentage & the hook seems always to be through the upper lip & not skin hooked inside the mouth. Use these hooks. You will be glad you did.
From: Roy: IL 9/2/16
Comments: The TGW series hooks are the sharpest hooks you can buy. I use their trebles & this hook extensively. This hook is sticky sharp, it grabs onto anything and it penetrates bony tissues easily. I've been using these for 6 months or so, and Ive lost a handful of fish over that period, all of them by user error. One caution is these have fine points. I check mine after every snag for a rolled point. You can sharpen them, but usually tying on a new one gets the best results.
From: Chris: Tustin, C A6/1/16
Comments: This is the sharpest, lightest wire hook I have ever seen. The bad news is you will lose fish, especially smallies. Its basically a barbless hook, you will lose many baits & bass. And yes,I reel set like I'm supposed to.
From: Mohave BassMaster: Las Vegas, NV 2/13/16
Comments: This new Gamakatsu Aaron Marten's TGW Drop Shot Hook is hands-down the best hook I have ever used. The hook-set success percentages are better than any previous hook I have tried. The new slightly-out turned angle of the Aaron Marten TGW hook point has made a world of difference in the hook's performance. Also super, super sharp! Once any fishermen uses this hook, he will be hooked. The trick is to just get fishermen to try it. After that, the hook will sell itself. You guys hit a home run with this one.
From: Charles: Alum Creek, WV 6/25/15
Comments: These hooks are awesome, if the fish is breathing on this hook they are sure to get stuck on the end of your line.
From: Jens: Minnetonka, MN 5/7/15
Comments: This Without A Doubt The Sharpest Hook Out There. Aaron & Gama Know Their #!$&.. If You Wacky Rig Senkos Or Drop Shot Basstrix Or Robos Try Em You'll Be Hooked
