Sometimes the plastic baits we use are just too thick and heavy to rig on a standard worm hook, so Gamakatsu created their Extra Wide Gap hooks. Now these best-selling hooks are available with a bright blood red finish to give you that added extra edge that could make the difference. Experienced anglers have long known that a touch of red can often trigger a strike from an otherwise uninspired bass. Now, you can get that flash of red that might make a bass think its prey is wounded.
With a regular Texas-rig the point of the hook is pushed through the entire cross section of the bait so when a bass bites the lure the plastic bait is pushed down, exposing the point. If the plastic is too thick then not enough of the hook pushes through and the point cannot connect deep in the fish's mouth, and you either miss the fish completely or you don't hook it deeply and lose it on the first good run. If you find this happening to you when you fish big plastics, try the Extra Wide Gap hooks from Gamakatsu. Try them with big creature baits, big Senkos, and those oversized worms with thick bodies. Gamakatsu makes these hooks with the point in line with the eye of the hook so when you set the hook, all the force goes to the point to drive it through your plastic bait and into a hard, bony mouth. These are probably the best selling bass worm hooks in the known world!
We also offer these hooks in the economical and convenient 25 packs.
Comments: very good hookset, but for some reason every one i use bends VERY EASY. After one 4 pounder i need to tie on another hook. Not a very cheap/way to fish....

Comments: Their sharpness really holds up, and even in stained water I can see the red flash that seems to add extra appeal to bass holding in weeds. These are the only brand of offset wide gap worm hooks that I use anymore, unless I need the screw in type when I go to the Owner brand. From: Vince: Tucson, AZ
