Comments: Ordered three of them. #1 Drag went out with a fish on during a tournament #2 Drag is 50/50 #3 When you press the button to cast, it will go about 70% down. Causes it to grind and not really work at all. All three are less than a month old and have been used three times. Contacted Lew's direct, they told me that they could not do anything. Just return them...... They really stand by their products from what I can see.

Comments: I got the rod and reel combo for Christmas and it lasted about 3 months with pretty heavy use and the rod broke then I put the reel on a different rod and about another month later the reels drag stopped working then it stopped realign in line all together no not recommended get the silver max or the same price and has lasted me 3 years and counting. From: Unknown: 1/22/21
Comments: For the money, its great. i see loads of negative comments. its the cheapest Lew's reel on the market. Your going to have issues with it if its misused. Ive managed to take care of it and it has lasted me a year already and works like new. I highly recommend it if you want to be budget friendly and plan on taking good care of it.From: Andrew: Chicago, IL 10/10/20Comments: Straight up terrible. The reel broke in two weeks of using and it stops roandomly on the cast and just straight up stinks. Never recommend this. The rod broke in a week and the reel was left being a bad reel. Don't buy. From: Unknown: 8/21/20
Comments: Terrible. I don't know if I'm just unlucky because I have heard good things about the reel but right when it came the Lews sticker came off the reel. I now need superglue to put it back on and on top of that the side plate won't even open. No I am not doing it wrong it just will not open. I'm not telling you to not buying I'm just saying you can get unlucky just like myself. From: Unknown: 7/24/20
Comments: Rather disappointing reel even at this price point. Feels smooth when reeled by itself, but mushy on actual casts (I've mostly thrown medium squarebills on 30lbs braid + leader). Drag doesn't have a clicker, which also feels mushy. At $60 you're much better off with an Abu Garcia Silver Max, which is crisper and has a drag clicker.

Comments: You get what you pay for and while my Lews Super Duty Wide is a beast and never has had an issue this thing is the opposite. I get it, its a cheap bait caster even though its by a great brand. Mine has back lashed from day one and nothing I have done has fixed it.
From: Chris: Mass 4/9/19
Comments: This reel is a good reel, but only when you take extensive care of it and don't abuse it. This is one of the cheapest reels you can buy from Lews therefore it is made of cheaper quality, but is a good reel for any angler on a budget who practices good reel maintenance. If you take care of your equipment it will surely take care of you.

Comments: I have 4 of these reels and have had one for about 5 years. love all of these reels and even held very well after a year of tournament fishing. highly recommended reel or all users.
From: Troy - Texas 12/22/17
Comments: wouldn't recommend if you fish a lot because it breaks after about 1 month of use. ive had mine for about a month andd its worthless now, backlashes all the time, and the button is hard to push down to cast. drag slips all the time, it will soo be donated to the bottom of the lake foundation
From: Unknonwn 10/27/17
Comments: This was an absolute great reel I had it spooled with 50 braided line for two years and had no problems until I got hung on a stump and the drag stoped working and I could no longer use the reel. Besides that this was a great beginning reel and will recommend it to anyone fishing on a budget.
From: Matt: Poolville, TX 10/14/17
Comments: This is great baitcaster, I got the 7:1:1 which is super super smooth. This was my first baitcaster and once I got it set up I had no problem with backlashes. I would recommend this reel to anyone looking for a low budget baitcaster.
From: Parker: Indiana 10/5/17
Comments: Very good reel for the money I have a abu Garcia black max and this blows that out of the water. My only problem is that someone stepped on it and and bent the reel handle and then it snapped but I still use it. I caught a 4.2 bass on it just a couple days ago on it. VERY GOOD REEL.
From: dakota: louisiana 9/30/17
Comments: Was good for about three months. Now things aren't working so well. Good reel for a starter but a kastking reel off amazon will do the same job for cheaper. Wouldn't recommend it.
From: Nate: Canada 7/23/17
Comments: I got this reel for Christmas and I'm in love with it, I have the 7.1.1 gear ratio which is great for top water and spinner baits, overall great reel for the price.
From: Julio: Fort Worth, Texas 7/17/17
Comments: Bought this reel, and with very minimal use (4 Trips) the thumb spool release button became super hard to depress and makes a loud metallic clunk on depressing it. Haven't had the reel in dirt, sand or anything to gunk it up. Contacted LEW's about warranty repair, suuuuper slow customer service response time (2 weeks total to address the issue). Which was put some reel grease on it or send it back on your own dime. Just glad I didn't spend a several hundred bucks on a reel, to have the pleasure of interacting with their garbage customer service reps. Save your money and give it to companies who actually give a crap about you as a customer. No more LEW's products for this guy.
From: Matt: Minneapolis 7/13/17
Comments: I bought this reel and it was my first baitcaster. The star drag just stopped working and it is basically a free spool all the time. The brakes are also pretty bad.
From: Roman: Pittsburgh, PA 7/10/17
Comments: not exactly butter smooth but smooth great for anyone i bought this as a combo and i dont have a problem with it when tuned just right like i have mine cast across ponds if u want to i mean u name it ive caught a couple bass on it and everytime is a easy reel in id recommend to everyone
From: sebastain: oklahoma 6/6/17
Comments: I have had mine for 1-2 years now. Very nice little reel and would probably be good for beginners. Smooth and easy to cast. Mine arrived with a defective braking system but I called Lew's and they shipped me a new side cover and it's worked perfectly ever since.
From: Marcus: Tampa, Fl 5/29/17
Comments: I have had this reel for over a year. It was my first baitcaster I had and I love it. I have never had any problems with it and I will for sure stick with lews. The price is good for the quality of the reel. Perfect for someone starting with baitcaster.
From: Nolan: Hays, Kansas 4/3/17
Comments: A really good durable and good casting reel for $60 I take it every where with me and does the job everywhere I go lakes, pond, rivers you name it it does the job
From: Peyton Guston KY 3/29/17
Comments: pretty cool reel its really good looking and is pretty smooth! I use it for top water and frogs and it has 50 pound power pro braid on it!
From: Cam - 3/5/17
Comments: Right out of the box the drag system was broken. Contacted lews, and I got no response back. They lost a customer for life with this one. Poor customer service and a cheap product.
From: Josh: California 2/22/17
Comments: This reel is trash because the first time I went fishing with it it broke the star drag just broke would not recommend to any one if you are looking for a reel around this price get a daiwa arid or a daiwa Laguna much better reels 1-10 stars
From: Dave: Denver, Colorado 1/16/17
Comments: This reel was really good for about 3 months. After using it a lot you can see why this reel is $60. Personally I would recommend spending 40 extra buck to get the LFS speed spool because it last so much longer and feels a lot more smooth.
From: Jacob: USA 10/10/16
Comments: Bought the 7' MH rod and 6:4:1 reel in late July, I use it for my chatterbaits, lipless crankbaits, T-rigs. 3 months into having it, I finally hooked into a nice on, 3.11lb bass. Great combo for a great price, not to mention the cause is fantastic! Good job on this one, Lews!
From: Ty: PA 10/29/16
Comments: I use this reel for lipless cranks. For the price tag, you can't find anything better in my opinion. I have it paired with a 7ft medium heavy rod. It has reeled in fish over 5 pounds easy. I love mine. Would recommend to anyone.
From: Jarrett: AR 6/8/16
Comments: This is one of the best rods that i have ever used, not to mention by far the best rod in the price range. I have the 6'7" medium action paired with a 3000 ardent bolt spinning reel. i use it for jerkbaits, crainkbaits flukes & senkos. this & the 7'1"MH make for some really awesome spinning rods especially if you are not a huge fan of casting setups.
From: Gabe: Fort Collins, CO 6/6/16
Comments: Compared to the more expensive Lew's baitcaster, this reel is actually lighter. However, it is not as smooth as the more expensive reel, but it can easily cast as far. The brakes are also not as good as on the more expensive reel, so it is easier to "bird's nest". This just means you have to pay more attention to how you cast. This reel is definitely worth the money & I would encourage you to try it out.
From: Peter: Gilbert, AZ 6/6/16
Comments: Buying this reel with a couple others on memorial day, just because of the donation. Not to mention it looks great. Love this, hopefully its a good reel. Haven't heard anything bad about lew's so i'm not worried. If its bad i might as well just donate directly to wounded warriors instead.
From: John: NC 5/12/16
Comments: All of my friends have told me great things about lews. But I could not afford one for the longest time but I had saved up enough money to buy this reel on a combo and it came with a free shirt! I recommend this reel to everyone!
From: John: NY 2/17/16
Comments: Got this reel last year & still works good as new. not super smooth but casts a mile. definetly recommend it for the money.
From: Harrison: Austin, TX 11/9/15
Comments: These reels are really something else. They have a clean look to them & even cleaner performance. I was skeptical at first because of the lack of reviews but man these are some great reels. They are on par with my caenan when it comes to smooth reeling & very strong reel. I've got one spooled up with 30lb braid with 12lb backing & one with 15lb flouro. Both handle extremely well.
From: Tom: GA 10/22/15
Comments: I truly love this reel. My first real baitcast & the price of $60 was very appealing. I put it on a swimbait rod that i also use for jigs, frogs & anything kind of large. I will be the first one to tell you that this reel is too small for swimbaits & frogs, but it holds its ground & can muscle in some big fish. I have 50lb braid on it with 20lb mono backing & it handles braid great. Drag system is nice, reel handle is nice & this is a great starter reel. I am going to move up to nicer, more expensive reels, but this reel will stay in my arsenal for a long, long timeFrom: Matt: Plainfield, IL 9/20/15
Comments: This is a solid reel for 60 bucks & I love all lew's reels. The AH performs good for me after I oiled it up but it's a little harder to avoid backlash than I'd like. There are better reels for the price.
From: Tanner: Mamou, LA 5/7/15
Comments: I love this reel and the money you pay for it a portion of it goes to programs that support the american heroes we call our military which is one of the big reasons i chose this reel. Not because of its looks or its great reviews but because of what some of the money goes too. I love this reel already and have been using it for 3 or 4 days very easy to tune up. I plan to use this around docks for skipping/pitching/flipping topwater and jerkbaiting. This reel performs flawlessly. The only flaws have been cause by me.
From: Jake: Imperial, MO 12/27/14
Comments: I just ordered this reel and i own 3 american hero rods cause lews is a american company and i too am very proud of our veterans and the price does not reflect the quality and i love that win-win goes lews!
From: Creepweav: Bakerfield, CA 10/24/14
Comments: Lews is a proud supporter of the real American hero foundation I personaly met him at the last tournament on 8-2-14 on the potomac river he donated over 100 rod and reel combos, best rods and reels on the market, some company's say that the send a portion of the proceds to the foundation which is only cents on the dollar, in fact lews dose more then cents they out $10"s of dollars per reel and rod towards them p, jus trembler people with out our vets and warriors we could not be on the land of the free and home of the brave so buy a few even if you don't use them it's for a good cause
