Comments: Amazed is the word I would use. I purchased the feather XH 7'3 casting rod. I own Loomis, St. Croix, Powell, Falcon and the list goes on. Rigged for pitching with Tuff-Line Braid you can feel weeds hit your plastics on the drop. For $189 dollars this rig is on a different level. No more high dollar rods for me. Incredible light and the sensitivity seems almost unfair. Thank you Phenix Rods for producing a high end Rod for a great price.

Comments: 7'7" Heavy is the greatest Carolina rig rod ever!! Bomb casts, super sensitive and rock solid hooksets!

Comments: Bought the 7'1" Light to pair up with a BFS Curado. This rod is crazy lightweight and incredibly sensitive. Call me crazy but I've been using it for livescoping crappies this spring. It works amazing and I can tell it's more sensitive then my crappie spinning setups (BPS CarbonLite & St. Croix). This just might be my favorite rod in my whole lineup.

Comments: I purchased the Phenix Feather 7' 1" Light casting rod when they first came out.Love the rod, Hate the small grip. I installed a full length cork grip on the rod and it's now my best BFS rod. It's ultra light and sensitive. I paired it with a shimano 16 aldebaran BFS reel and 6LB red label line, and now it's my go to ned rig set up. This rod makes a 3LB smallmouth feel like a 5 pounder.

Comments: I have the 7'7" XH which I use for flipping and punching thick vegetation. I bought it after a lot of deliberation about what to get as a dedicated rod for it. I'm very happy with this one. I can confirm what most others are saying that the actions are a step more moderate compared to most other manufacturers, but it works well in the case of this model since I think a typical flipping stick tends to be moderate-fast anyway. This is essentially a mod-fast rod. I don't think that the power rating is lower compared to other extra heavies. Again, can't speak for other models. The fact that it is not naked graphite is nice. I don't know if all of the models are like this but when punching mats you're bound to get bogged down and end up pulling a weight out at high speed. This gives a little bit more protection in the case of a freak impact on the rod. The rod is very light and very sensitive, really amazing value at this price point I think. The only thing I think would be an improvement for this particular model would be a longer handle, but a deliberate choice of a heavier reel made it balance well.

Comments: I must first say that the rods are very sensitive, light and comfortable to fish with. That being said I went out for my first outing of the year and broke a rod casting a jig on my second cast. Now usually this wouldn' be a problem and I wouldn't write a review about it since everyone has broken a rod in their life, but this is the third Phenix Feather that I've broken. The first two I broke on hooksets and the third on a cast. Now most people will probably think I did something to the rods but I fish many tournaments and I take good care of my equipment, especially when it's expensive equipment. My other complaint is that it costs an additional $55 to send it in if they break. Again this would not be an issue if the rod broke from me stepping on it or banging it around but casting? And hooksets? Basically inexcusable.
From: Ian: Washington 5/3/22
Comments: Bought the 7'3" XH for a frog rod but it's definitely a power lighter and about a half step down in action compared to other rods with those ratings but I love it. Super light and sensitive for its size. It works well for froggin but I can do anything from big texas rigs, spinnerbaits, large softplastic swimbaits & punchin jigs. Only complaint is the hook keeper. It should be just a simple enclosed loop like many other manufacturers have. I had to put electrical tape around the bottom of it to keep my line out of there.
From: Cody: 5/2/22
Comments: I purchased several of the popular models when these rods first came out. I only have one model now, because these rods are too soft and one power below rating. The 7"1 H is like a moderate-fast MH for example. The one I kept is a gem, the 7'3 XH is a amazing frog rod, power rod, heck I even throw 8 inch Magdrafts on it. It hast a fast moderate bend throughput the blank and has the power that the other models lack. It weighs on 3.8 oz for a heavy powered stick that's unheard of.
From: John: MN 4/5/22
Comments: My FTX frog rod lasted a year. I really don't want to pay $70 and shipping to replace a rod that will last another year. I have three other Dobyns frog rods. Love the finish and feel of these rods but their durability is suspect. I'll slowly phase them out And replace them with Dobyns gear that lasts!
From: Chris: Clear Lake, CA 3/1/22
Comments: I got the 7'1 light to pair with my tatula sv103, it's a great combo so far. My first impressions are pretty good, the rod is incredibly light weight, sensitive, and it loaded very well when casting. It's also a very beautiful looking rod. The only thing that sets me off is the guides, the first rod I received came with a cracked guide insert and the first guide had a click to it, like the epoxy was slightly cracked. TW replaced it, super simple, but the new rod also has a "clicky" first guide. I'm not super worried about It but its definitely a defect.
From: Reece: Kansas 2/9/22
Comments: I have the 7'7 heavy and the mh these rods are unbelievable lite and strong I put them rite next to my duckett mirco magic pros. I met one of the owners at the East Tn fishing show what great ppl they are! I will have more in my arsenal for this upcoming year!
From: Scot: Blountville, TN 1/28/22
Comments: Ok, I've had this rod for over a year now. All I can say is this rod is by far the greatest in its price range and imho it's better then the shimano zodias rods. This thing is as sensitive as $500 rods easily, I've just about down right abused it as well banging it off rocks, bushes, trees, boats, and accidental drops and one fall down a hill. 3+ pound abusive boat flips all day long no snapping or cracking noises. All guides in place and everything is running as new. I'm not easy on my gear by any stretch, I've broken many rods but this has held up like it was my first ugly stick. I've run Shimano, Diawa, Okuma, Abu, and St croix. All of which have a place in my rod Arsenal, but after many years of narrowing it down to mostly Shimano and now Phenix. I can say it's hard to pay for anything else, it just feels like you're getting less compared to Phenix.
From: Jacob: Jupiter, FL 12/21/21
Comments: Bought the 6'9 with the idea of throwing jerkbaits on it. I believe it's a true mh lots of power. That being said it doesn't have as much tip as I would like. It doesn't load very well I think I'm going to pick something else up for the purpose
From: Chris: Unknown 12/8/21
Comments: Bought a 7'3" Extra Heavy and am super impressed. I use it for froggin and pitching and flipping into the heavy stuff. It can yeet them out of the nastiest veg. It's right on par with an expride with the same action. The only complaint I have is the style of bait keeper on there snags my line so much that I had to tape the bottom of it. Not too big of a deal.
From: Unknown: 11/15/21
Comments: First let me say that Phenix has their rod ratings completely screwed up! I purchased the 7' 1" H/XF and it performs more like a traditional medium, moderate fast. So I figured if I move up to the next power it should land me right where I want to be right? Wrong! I purchased the 7' 3" XH and it is a broomstick, spot on with it's rating! I returned the 7' 1" but will keep the 73XH since I can use it for frogs and Big EZs in heavy cover. They are beautiful rods and very light as the name implies but the powers and tapers need to be fixed badly.
From: Luis: lake Placid, Fl 9/2/21
Comments: Recently purchased the 7'1" heavy. Great rod! I don't buy 300$ rods but This rod is all I'll ever need. Aside from treble baits and 3oz swimbaits it can do it. Light, strong, sensitive and perfect tip deflection for casting, pitching and feel. I also own 7'1" MH and its been great for lighter duty fishing. These rods run a power down keep that in mind when buying.
From: Jethro: Maryland 7/23/21
Comments: I have three of the Feather series rods now (two casting, one spinning). For the price its hard to imagine why anyone would buy anything else. The Feather series cut out all the nonsense and leaves you with only what you need making them extremely lightweight and sensitive. The 7'7" extra heavy is my go to for throwing everything from jigs, to punch rigs, to frogs. I've got high end Shimano and G Loomis rods and the Feather series rods are honestly more enjoyable to fish. Paired with a Metanium you've got one of the lightest set ups imaginable.
From: Collin: Bayfield 6/3/21
Comments: Nice rod overall. The only gripe is that the hook holder is only threaded on one side. My line ends up catching on it 50 percent of the time. Solution is to add some epoxy on the end of the hook holder and close it off or, just remove the hook holder completely.
From: Randy: Kingwood, TX 5/16/21
Comments: I got the 77 XHeavy and it is a beast. It is a little bit softer of a tip but i came to love it even more. I use it for a dedicated punch rod and i couldn't be any happier. The softer tip allows for a better hook-set while the beefy backbone pulls the fish out of the thick slop. It feels like im picking up one of my finesse rods and allows me to punch all day long without any fatigue. From here on out these will be the only rods i will be purchasing in this price range. (I have it paired with the Curado K...its one sexy setup)
Updated: I have the 7'7 ExHeavy, 7'1 Heavy, and 7'7 medium (spinning). All have performed great, and I have no complaints at all aside from wishing the handle was longer but that is a personal preference. I use the 7'7 ExHeavy as a back-up/lighter punch rod and frog rod. 7'1 Heavy as a frog, swimbait, and heavy swimjig. I have not had a problem with the grooves in the eyelets when fishing braid like some of the other reviews and I have had them about a year and a half.. but we will see. The spinning rod has exceeded my expectations greatly as well. I found it more comfortable and almost more sensitive than the expride spinning rods (not the casting). It is a joy to fish with and covers the finesse applications since I am mainly a powerfisher. Neds, drop shot, neko, wacky, underspins, and even some lighter topwaters. Paired up with a Stradic FL is insane. My one and only spinning setup that will do it all when it comes to finesse.

Comments: I've used this rod 6 times so far, paired with a 2017 Tatula with an after market BFS spool, and 8lb InvizX FC. I have fished 1/16 and 3/32 ned rigs with TRD mostly. Sensitivity is fantastic, I caught tons of bass and was able to feel the ned pulling through weeds and rocks, and I was easily able to feel pressure bites as well and solid bites. I also used it for balsa minnows, and it worked well. Casting is great, and accurate. Reel seat is very comfortable, and the rod is very cleanly put together. Highly recommended.
From: Unknown: 4/5/21
Comments: I got the 7'7 it's so light it feels like a Med and u can throw 1/4-2oz baits. I fished 9 straight no problem! I will have more of these!
From: S Greene: Blountville, TN 3/21/21
Comments: I was looking for a light, sensitive rod for soft plastics and small jigs, this is exactly that.7'1" MH did the trick. Very light above average sensitivity with deceptive backbone. With past comments a little worried about longevity , only used one season.
From: Kevin: MD 3/6/21
Comments: Had a 7'7" heavy that i bought 1/23/2020. I absolutely loved it but it broke at the base casting a jig on 1/4/2021 i used this rod for less than a year and was not abusive to it, ive had $50 cheap combos last longer and go through more abuse than this, not to mention ive had friends break more than 3 so either they were a bad batch or like many people are saying these rods like to snap. From: Unknown: 1/29/21
Comments: Simply incredible how a rod at this price can be this good.I got the 7 1 MH and it is definitely more a M but the action is just perfect- a fast, not x fast with perfect flex and backbone. The rod is also beautiful and the build quality is as good as any rod.I fish NRX, XP, Destroyer and I am hugely impressed with this rod. From: Joh: Waukesha, WI 10/14/20Comments:i have the 7'1" ML paired with a Shimano scorpion BFS. this setup works great for ned rigs and other small lures, it has also become my go to for crappie fishing. It can throw a 1/10oz ned a mile, and it doesn't have a problem standing up to large Bass. Great lightweight rod. The only negative for me is that the butt of the rod is very small.
From: Mitch: St Cloud, MN 10/12/20
Comments:I purchased a Phenix feather and it by far is the best rod I have ever owned. I put a Lews custom lite reel and fish it almost all the time. I have caught several fish in the double digit category. The rod isMEDIUM heavy and it has plenty of back bone. I usually use it for jigs or magnum worms. Going to order another one later today.
From:Shelby: 5/30/20
Comments: I've seen several people saying they've brown theirs... Must be beating the crap out of em cause mine have done extremely well! I have a 6'9"MH that is great for flukes and jerkbaits. I've also done a fair amount of lightweight Texas rigging with this rod as well! Caught some great fish on em! Also have a 7'7"H that is a phenomenal Texas rig rod! It fishes a bit more as if it's slightly heavier than MH, but that's fine with me. Something to keep in mind is that these are softer tipped than most other rods in the same power. But I'd swear by mine. I have a 6'9" medium spinning rod as well that's awesome at weightless with and super light Texas rigs and shaky heads. All that to say, I love these rods and definitely want more!
From: Andrew: Sumter, SC 3/19/20
Comments:The Phenix Feather, despite mixed reviews, had been a phenomenal rod for me! I own a 6'9" MH casting, 6'9" medium spinning, and for Christmas a buddy got me the 7'7"Heavy... The 7uH has become one of my favorite rods I've ever owned! Very sensitive and incredibly light considering the size! I've noticed that a lot of Phenix Rods are a bit lighter (in rod power) than other brands but I've found I actually like that. I've boat flipped several good sized bass (3 to 3.5 pounders... Yeah I know, no monsters but even if I was using a heavier rod I still wouldn't boat flip anything heavier than that) and it's done fine! Will definitely buy more! From: Andrew: Sumter, AL 3/17/20
Comments: I've been using the 7'1 med/hvy for a year paired with an Aldebaran. Almost exclusively for 100-130 size jerkbaits. I have some gnarly shoulder issues from old sports injuries, so just looking for the lightest combo when I'm chucking and ripping. The tip is soft enough to sling baits. Most often, I've only lost fish that had one rear treble point in. As everyone says it's a power down from its rating which is perfect for this application. I don't have experience boat flip 3+ pounders and torquing on fish out of heavy cover, so I can't attest to how the rod would hold up to maximal abuse. Thinking about the 7'7 extra heavy to see if my pansy shoulders can finally handle A-rigging. That thing still weighs the same as your average 7' med/hvy. I have mostly Dobyns Champions, Exprides, Zodias. Wonderful rods, but light as a feather and cheaper will save $ and the shoulders. Whenever I need to replace a graphite application, I will be buying feathers. Hope someone finds this rant useful.

Comments:When I bought my first Phenix feather lite rod I though it was great sensitive, light really nice. I caught lots of bass on it. I fish bass tournaments just about every weekend, so I went ahead and bought quite a bit more now I have 6 of them spinning and baitcasting. Now I am having problems after about a year and a half. All I fish is braid and it's now grooving out all the eyes. It's a real problem to me didn't know it was happening till I had a few fish break off and nothing ever really breaks me off because of the braid. When the eyes Groove out all you have to do is gently grab the line and just spin it around the inside of you eye a make sure it's running all the way around the inside of the ceramic of each eye and it will cut the line with no effort just like a razor. So if your fish braid stay away. Im using expride fishing rods now with no problems at all really nice but a bit priceyFrom: Richard: Franklinville 12/14/19
Comments:Not bad but not great either. I got the 7'7 mh and it does not feel sturdy whatsoever. The power rating is off and it feels more for finesse fishing applications. It's a very average rod, I'll be looking elsewhere as I feel this rod is not worth it's $150 price tag. From: Unknown: 10/16/19
Comments:The best finesse bait casting rod on the planet. There are not a lot offered for the American market and reviews indicate the JDMs are stiff and mostly 2 piece. This is my first year with this rod and every time I use it I want to use it more. I am a light lure, shaky head, jig, soft plastic fisher. I have caught many 3,4 and 5 pound bass on this rod. It has a soft enough tip to toss light line and light lures, yet enough backbone to handle a 5lbs small mouth or large mouth when they refuse to come to the boat. I have several reels, last trip I paired it with a Quantum Icon and it was like magic. Light weight balanced and could cast a mile. I typically pair it with a far more expensive reel and they mate well but this combo was outstanding. If you want to cast light weight lures and catch big fish this is the rod for you. Please give it a try I am sure you will be pleased. I wish they made a 6'8" or 6'10" version. I want to buy more. I have searched high and low for a rod like this.
From:Teleman: Western, MA 9/11/19
Comments: The best (bait casting) finesse rod in the world. I went fishing Sunday and I am still excited about using this rod. I had 3 bait casters and a spinning outfit with me. I used all 4. Every time I picked up the Phenix it was a mile ahead of the others. I typically use a light jig or shaky head with it. Sunday I fished it primarily with a weightless Yamamoto Ika tube/grub and it tossed it a mile. I paired the rod with a Quantum Icon reel. It was a perfect combo, soo light. Everything else felt like a ton. This combo made me wonder why I needed the spinning combo. Every time I use this rod it just feels so good. If you fish finesse style, use light lures, jigs, shaky heads and plastics, buy one of these and you will be pleased. There maybe rods that cost a lot more and just as nice or better. If so I can't afford them. I did a lot of research before my purchase and the list of others was very short and for the money I don't think worth it. I wish Phenix made this rod in a 6' because I want to buy another and that is my favorite rod length. The majority of rods in this class are called BFS and a lot of them are reported to be very stiff tipped this is not, it has a very soft tip but a lot of backbone. I have caught many 4 and 5lbs bass on this rod and was able to horse them to the boat with no problem when needed.

Comments:I purchased the Phenix Feather casting 7'1" light. I want to down size my baitcasting gear. Not many light line weight rods on the market or in my price range. This is my favorite rod, it is the most expensive rod I own, not by much. It is without a doubt the nicest rod I own. I would buy another in a heartbeat. I use this rod with finesse jig head and shaky head baits. It has caught some large northeast smallies and large mouth bass and handled them well. The parabolic action of the rod is amazing when it hits the backbone it allows you to haul them in with confidence. Pure joy if matched with a comparable reel. Buy one you will not regret it.From: Teleman: Massachusetts 7/30/19

Comments:Want to know what a high end rod feels like ? Pick up a phx , feather .. these rods are very very light & crisp .Of course sensitivity is a given with such a light rod . These don't have the higher end components of say a Gloomis but the graphite seems a close match of the IMX I have the 6'8 MH .. makes for a nice jerkbait and top water rod. ..$150 & under the feathers are a steal - highly recommend

Comments:Been using the Phenix Feather 7'1" Heavy for a couple months now. It is a very nice rod. Very lightweight and durable. I've compared it to my G loomis E6x 7' MH and it is definitely a lot lighter. This rod is pretty sensitive, I wouldn't say outstanding as the G loomis is more sensitive, however it will get the job done for sure. It is on the lighter side of the taper, the Heavy is like a typical Medium Heavy. I have been using this rod for Bay Bass in SD bay and I like it a lot. I am planning on getting a second, For $160 you can't beat them.

Comments:hate to say it but everyone else in this section is right, of course i looked to see if there were positive reviews, and there were some, so i went ahead and bought it, i've had it for 2 months and it just snapped today while feeding line through it. rod is unmatchable, it WAS by far the best rod i've had but i wouldn't get it again because of how unbelievably fragile it is.

Comments:I've been using the Feathers for about 6 months now. All I can say is WOW! I am so impressed with the weight and sensitivity. I've got 4 of them now and almost never pick up my Loomis and Dobyns anymore. The 73XH is an amazing frog rod. And the 77MH is my go to senior rods. The spinning rod I have for drop shotting is my favorite. Super sensitive, and just the perfect tip with plenty of back bone. I may just switch out completely to Phenix. Gonna give their crank rods a try next.
From: David: California 9/21/18
Comments:I had my Feather Rod less than one month. It snapped on a two pound bass. Currently I tracked it and it has been there for 7 days and no response from Phenix Rods. I really don't want another one and will not pay shipping and 50 bucks. I have returned rods twice to G Loomis and had a new one in my hands in 7 days no charge. Will never purchase another Phenix Rod. You see reviews saying that they are a good rod for the money but, I wish I had the money I threw away on a rod that lasted less than one month { bought this rod on 4th of July Sale } to go toward purchasing a G Loomis.
From: Unknown - 8/19/18
Comments:Just got a 7'1 MH and it's the lightest rod I've came across, very sensitive but really good backbone for a solid hookset. You can definitely differentiate the bite from gettin stuck easily and it's nothin short of impressive. Also to mention the warranty is unmatchable.
From: Anthony5/11/18
Comments:Easily the best rod under $200. Super sensitive, extremely light, and still very powerful. If you wanna know what a high-end/priced rod feels like without breaking the bank, pick up one of the feathers. It doesn't matter what power-taper-length you get. Pick your favorite lure and get a rod that suits it. You will not be disappointed.

Comments:I recently purchased the 6'9" MH and it certainly is a feather. The feather has a nice tip for casting smaller baits, but the action is probably more M than MH. This rod is really light!! I put an Ardent Apex Elite on for a really light combo. The grip may be a little small for fisherpersons with larger hands, but not a problem for me. Lightweight, casts really nice, and has enough ass to pull them in. Nice rod.

Comments:Got the 7'7 heavy and the rod seems to have a very light action to it. No way it would handle a 2oz weight.Action is more like a crank bait rod, then a flip rod. Don't know why they would put that heavy a rating on a rod thats clearly know where near that...!! Kind of deceiving to say the least!!Has anyone else experienced this??? Or was the rod miss marked??

Comments:Received the 7'1" light and 7'3" XH. As others stated very light, the L weighs 3.0oz and the XH weights 3.75oz. They feel nice in hand and from what I've tested so far they are plenty sensitive for bottom contact.

Comments:I got the 7'7" heavy. It handles jigs great and has a ton of power to set the hook. I've been primarily using it for jigs but will also use it for Texas rigs, swim jigs, and small plastic swimbaits. Extremely sensitive if you're fishing with braid and a short fluorocarbon leader. I have noticed a big increase in bites with this rod that I probably wouldn't have felt fishing another rod around the same price.
