Snapped in halfWhile casting a small pop-r, the rod snapped in half mid-cast. I didn't even have the rod for 30 days. Haven't caught a fish on it either. Tried to get a replacement. I called 4 times trying to claim a rod defect and customer service is terrible. Do not buy phenix rods, you will not be taken care of.

Good rod slippery handleIt's a very light and sensitive rod and is stronger than you might expect, the only thing is if the handle or reel seat or your hands get wet there is very little grip because there is no Eva foam or cork or nothing so as long as you keep the handle dry you're good

Super lightweight and stiffI have finally used the 71hxf spinning rod and it’s a very light weight rod. Fished with 1/4oz spinnerbait and 4” paddle tails. I have 30lb braid main line with 15 lb mono leader. I definitely recommend this rod. I got this for fishing weedy lakes/areas. Stiff stick but not a beast to handle.

Comments: Best spinning rod I have ever used, and it's not even close. Even my $500+ Loomis and megabass rods feel like they are filled with lead after using this extremely light rod. I paired 6'9 medium feather with a shimano vanford and the combo has amazing balance. I have fished the rod over 2 years before completing this review, including a steady diet of saltwater/inshore fishing. I have caught several snook over 30 inches, 10+lbs black drum, small sharks, and even a nearly 20lb stingray. Even tho it's proven to be able to handle big saltwater fish, it is absolutely amazing for finesse bass fishing like great lakes smallmouth bass. I am now working on replacing my entire arsenal with all phenix feather rods. The only issue I have noticed is, the lightweight guides are slightly noisy with some braided fishing line, but a high quality 8 or 16 carrier braid works great. (I'd recommend hitena silky 16 carrier braided line)

Comments: The 2nd day I had it my kayak drifted into an overhead tree and the rod snapped right in half in the butt section. Have never had that happen before, especially since I watched it just fold right over and break off. Every other rod I have owned have been strong in that section and could withstand that scenario, which happens often in kayaking. Other than that, it felt really good. Did manage to land 1 fish on it and it handled it fine.

Comments: I fish spinning gear only. I never learned how to throw a bait caster well, and at this point, I'd rather spend my time fishing than practicing/learning new gear. I purchased the 7'1" Heavy rod for throwing large baits that typically require a baitcaster (glide baits, swimbaits, bigger jigs, etc)... This rod is rated to throw baits up to 1.75 oz! It is amazingly light for its power. I also have a few St. Croix Legend Tournament rods, and this Phenix Feather is lighter than any of those. I haven't fished this rod a whole lot yet, but so far so good. I definitely recommend the Heavy version specifically for anglers that want to throw baits they normally couldn't on spinning gear. My only complaint is that there's no cork handles. I understand that's a weight-saving measure, but this thing is so light it could honestly use just a little weight... in fact, you should put a reel on it immediately after unboxing, just so it doesn't float away.

Comments: I owned the 7'7 M action for a out 4 years now. It finally broke on me from casting a 3/8 Oz lure. I have little to no complaints about this rod except the fact that my rod tip needed a replacement. The ceramic on the inner ring started to crack and was splitting my fishing line. I tried the conventional way to remove a rod tip by gentle heating it with a lighter. It actually caught on fire and started to burn. There was no easy way to change the rod tip other than to clip it with pliers. I wish changing the rod tips on these were easier.

Comments: Very light weight and sensitive. Good durability and great casting distance

From: Kevin: San Diego, CA 5/10/22

Comments: I am not a spinning rod guy but got one of these to pair with a stradic FL to have one setup that will do multiple things. Wow.. insanely light, sensitive, and very good looking with the Stradic. I ended up breaking it in the boat (users fault) and ended up buying an expride to replace it. After 3 trips I sold it to get my Phenix 7'7 Medium back. I have thrown neds, wacky rigs, neko, and even a bit of topwater with no problems at all. For a power fishing guy this is a perfect setup to cover multiple areas of finesse instead of buying multiple different setups.

Comments: I've had this rod for over a year now, and let me just say I'm amazed with it. For the price point, you just can't beat it. I purchased the 71M and the 71ML and was able to land a DD on the 71M pair with a Shimano Stradic Ci4 15lb braid to 8lb fluoro leader. The sensitivity is great and you have power where you need it. My expride's are now collecting dust because I just love these rods so much. The rod is super light and feels great in the hand once you get used to the reel seat. I would highly recommend this rod to anyone. You won't regret it.

From: Gabriel G.: Lancaster, CA 2/14/21

Comments: I'm a fan. I picked up one of these on a whim because it felt good in my hand at the shop. Little did I know I would be buying 3 more of them a month later. The rods are crazy light, and super sensitive. I have a few GLX & NRX rods and these are very close in sensitivity. The reel seat is love/hate. I happen to like them but they are not as comfortable as cork. I run Sustain 2500s on them. I tried the lighter Stradic CI4+ but I feel the balance is better with the heavier Sustain, and the lightness of the rod makes up for it. Plenty of power. I got accidentally go into a 8lb+ carp with 10lb braid to 6lb leader and it was one heck of a fight. I gained a lot of respect for these rods after that.

Comments: I purchased a phenix feather 7'1" medium power spinning rod like 3 years ago.  Since then I've purchased probably a half dozen more phenix feather spinning and casting models.  All around I love the rods.  Everyone has their own personal preferences but for me it's one of my favorite rods of any rod out there at any price. The feather series are all super light in hand and transmit vibrations for feeling what's going on very well. Focusing on the spinning rods, the grips are minimalist and personally I like them but they can be a tad slippery with gloves or if you get smelly jelly or something on them. I like the hook keeper style and placement at the base of rod also cause it keeps it from getting tangled and a good place for drop shot sinkers etc etc.  The rod actions are typically what I'd describe as like multi taper in that they are pretty fast but they do get a bit of a parabolic bend to them when they are really loaded up. Personally for what I like for most presentations and fighting fish I think their actions are fantastic. That being said the rods will probably feel a power down from what you might be used to expecting. Late fall when getting lots of ice build up in guides I have popped guides out of their frames on a couple feather rods (both were casting models) but they were getting fairly abused in those conditions.. Also I broke one rod due to my own fault and I followed their owner fault warranty process and I had a new one at a reduced cost probably within a couple weeks of me mailing it out.  So far I'd highly recommend Phenix Feather Rods.

From: Josh: Williston, ND 1/6/21

Comments: Yes, it's light, but otherwise, it's just ok. My biggest complaint is the reel seat. I have mine paired with a Shimano Stradic and fighting fish 5 pounds or heavier, the blank flexes under the reel seat. Also, the guides don't seem to be placed quite right - casting jerk baits, I get a lot of resistance through the guides and can hear the braid noisily going through on the cast.

From: Unknown: 9/7/20

Comments: Very sensitive rod and light weight but I broke mine in half setting the hook on a dropshot with 8lb test. All of my other rods are Loomis and I can tell you now that it will be replaced with a Loomis.

From: Unknown: 6/30/20

Comments: After purchasing my third Phoenix Rod I regret to say that the feather spinning rod has been a bad choice. The rod felt great but the tip broke off while casting on the second use. To make matters worse the warrant process is horrible. ItR019s been 2 months and I donR019t have my rod yet. IR019ve placed at least 15 calls to Phoenix with long holds, no answers with a R01Cmailbox is full and weR019re not taking callsR01D to lost paperwork, and on and on. ItR019s a shame because my feather flipping and cranking rods are my favorite in the boat but the company Phoenix is a mess! Not sure I will ever buy from them again.

From: Unknown: 12/13/19

Comments: I bought the 7' 7 medium for ned rigs - neko etc. I can't get over how light this rod is at only 3.3 ounces - that's insane for 7' 7. The quality is top notch - correct epoxy on eyelets - the reel seat is very comfortable. Amazing rod for only $170 highly recommended

From: Ross: Las Vegas 11/13/19

Comments: Have the 6' casting rod and it is awesome. It is an extremely versatile rod. Very sensitive, has some tip, great backbone. Paired with an Aldebaran comes in at 8-ish oz and is an absolute blast for light jig fishing to 3/8 oz, jerkbaits, Texas Rigs, top water baits, etc.Reminds me of Loomis MBR tapers. I also have the 7' lightspinning rod and it is plenty powerful enough to handle smallmouth up to 6 pounds and still cast a 1/16 oz hair jig well. The feather series has no lack of power. They just happen to be light in the hand with good tip action. They compare very well to my NRX series rods from Loomis except they don't have cork handles, which makes them less comfortable in the cold. They are extremely sensitive for any price range. Again, I find myself reaching for something else if spinning in the really cold temps. Otherwise they are really hard to beat.

From: Jim: Springfield, MO 8/12/19

Comments:I purchased the 7'1 Light action, and it has easily become my favorite rod I own. It's so sensitive and light, it's insane. I paired it with a daiwa exceler 2500 lt and it is a dream with 10 lb braid. It's perfect for light drop shots and the best ned rig rod I have ever tried. Really a great rod. The only downside is it is SOOO light that I found it difficult finding a reel that felt right with it. You need a very light reel to make it right otherwise it feels insanely bottom heavy from the reel.

From:Mike: Blooingdale, NJ 6/23/19

Comments:I was in the market for a new wacky/drop shot rod. Decided to go with the 7'1 Medium Fast.I have it paired up with a stradic 2500 and the combo is insanely light and strong. First fish I caught on it was a 5lber and he swam deep into a mat. Pulled up about 8lbs of grass with him and the rod held up fine. I'm extremely satisfied with this rod.

From:Unknown: 6/23/19

Comments:This Phenix feather is just as advertised, light as a feather!I was kind of skeptical at first as to how durable this rod would be since it's so lightweight.I purchased the 7'1 M, and all I can say is that my skepticism was answered as this rod handled a decent sized 4 pounder with ease. The sensitivity of the rod is really good, and if you're fishing braid to leader, it's not even fair to the fish.Have this paired with a stradic ci4, and it's just a dream how light the combo is.The handle might look weird, but it fits into my hand quite well.If you like to hold the reel between your pinky finger and ring finger, it's really comfortable. If you hold the reel between your index finger and middle finger, I'm not sure if you'll like how it fits in your hand. This rod is definitely my go to for finesse tactics.

From: Ryan:CA 1/28/19

Comments:In my opinion, probably the best spinning rod under $300. Possibly even beats higher end rods. I've only felt one other rod as light as this one which was the 13 Fishing Envy Black that they quit making last year.My reaction was funny pulling it out of the tube, I could see myself holding the rod, but couldn' t feel any weight...it was a weird feeling. Haha. It's truly a feather but can battle trophy smallmouth in current. The grip perfectly settles into your hand, is quite comfortable to hold, and looks cool. I will be buying more maybe even going completely over to this line. It's that awesome.

From: Brian:Eagan, MN1/16/19

Comments:Love this rod. Handles 1/16 to 3/8 oz well. Great tip with solid backbone. Can handle big fish but makes smaller fish a blast. Handle is great except during cold weather bottom contact fishing. Great warmer weather rod, my 5th Phenix and they are all really good rods. The Feather compares to my NRX and other Loomis rods favorably, but prefer cork handles in the cold.

From: Jim - 1/5/19

Comments:Have the 7'1" M paired with a Daiwa Tatula LT 3000. Amazingly light combo. Not sure where the other reviewer got the idea that the M was only rated to 3/8 oz, that would be the light. The M is actually a little heavier in power than I like in spinning rod and is actually pretty close to many MH casting rods in power. This is a true Fast action rod as well. All the flex is in the tip as compared to the Maxim series, for example, which is more of a moderate taper and flexes down much of the blank. I loved my Maxims until I got some time with this on the water. That time paid off with a 21.5" pig that I pulled out from underneath a dock during a recent tournament. The rod did its job and did it well.

From: Rich - Las Vegas, NV 5/27/18

Comments:Picked up the 7'1 medium, it's super light and plenty sensitive. Quickly becoming one of my favorite rods in the spinning arsenal.

From:Unknown: 5/16/18

Comments:7' 1" Light is incredibly light and sensitive. Great for throwing hair jigs and super finesse baits. Much more backbone past the 6th eye than I would have thought, pulled a 4+ out of brush without issue. Paired with a Daiwa Legalis 2500 and 10 lb power pro it will cast 1/20th ounce a mile. Highly Recommend.

From: Brendan - Radford, VA 5/4/18

Comments:69m feels more like medium light. but i was still able to throw 3/4 oz lure confidently. pitches weightless yamamoto senkos 40 feet accurately. bend is 30/70 under heavy load. no cork or eva on handle makes this rod super sensitive. can easily feel the roll from spybait or inline spinner.

From: Jp:longbeach 4/17/18

Comments:Just received the 7'7" Medium Phenix feather today making it my first phenix rod ever.I was hesitant on making this purchase because I usually like to hold my equipment and get a feel for it before buying, and reviews were far and few, but I decided to bite the bullet and take a risk. First impression, Wow! Was it feather light.Has a good feel to it and seems like a very high quality rod.I bought this rod hoping to use its length to launch out larger search baits for roaming fish, and for working deeper water. With weight rating between 6-14lb line, I thought it would work well for larger baits for stripers also. However, upon feel and loading up the rod, medium really feels more like a medium-light.I'm a bit worried this rod might not hold true to its recommended specs but will have to wait and find out. Really feels like I shouldnt throw anything more than 8-10 lb line on.If anything, this rod would make a great medium-light rod for working walleyes or dropshotting.Just hoped it would have felt more beefy.

From: Cheng:Saint Paul4/12/18

Comments:7 1 m is really ml ,macro guides, up to .375 ounce light sensitive with delicate build. Handle is OK but reel seat size will determine if there is a gap or not.The lock down knob is too smooth. Like it still. No standards in rod ratings means suprize!

From:Unknown: 3/1/18

Comments:this is my third phenix spinning rod....had an M1 and loved it till it snapped like a pretzel right below tip pulling a shad rap off a piece of hydrilla....had a maxim and basically same result but snapped while i was filling my stradic with nanofil....the rods are really comfortable, light, nice guides especially for the price and are sensitive till they snap. Ok Phenix, last chance .....really like the Feather and seems like it may be more durable...very light, great grip....lets see what happens
