Targeting fish in a slightly deeper arena than its twin Rapala Shadow Rap Shad Deep expands the Shadow Rap franchise with a look and an action that is off the charts in-terms of sheer fish-catching power. Engineered to produces the same horizontal struggle that has made the original so popular, the Rapala Shadow Rap Shad Deep sets itself apart with a seductive, slow-rising shimmy on the pause, which perfectly imitates the final movements of an expiring shad.Slightly taller and slightly shorter than its predecessors, the Rapala Shadow Rap Shad Deep was specifically sized to imitate the broad profile of a shad, resulting in more flash per jerk. Upping the ante on realism, the Rapala Shadow Rap Shad Deep is offered in a range of translucent and frosted colors that are accented with 3-D eyes and lifelike textured scaling. Complete with two razor-sharp VMC thin wire trebles, the Rapala Shadow Rap Shad Deep perfectly captures the subtleties of a dying shad with a look and a slow-floating action that is sure to “mesme-rise” hungry predators.
Upgrade Your Treble Hooks!
Comments: They look real. I hooked a 5lb smallie on this thing. The only thing is the hooks bend SUPER easily. After 1 2lber one of the hooks straight up broke off, and the other hook bent.

Comments: These baits rock. They get bit and have great action. HOWEVER, I highly recommend changing out the hooks. The stock trebles work but consistently brake after a few fish.

Comments: I caught tons of smallmouth and Muskie up to 42" on this bait last year. As previously stated though, they do not hold up well. Most of mine cracked near the rear of the bait. One of the ball bearings would stick in the tail, or they would fill with water and sink.

Comments: The Good...The Bad and the Ugly. The Shadow Rap Shad is a suspending but very slow rising jerk bait if left sitting. The action is great and the colors are many. Add a couple of stick-on lead weight tabs if you want a true suspending bait. This bait cast well and far with a medium or medium light spinning rod and 8 to 10 lb test. Dives to about 6 to 8' on a normal retrieve but will go a little deeper than 10' "jerk trolling" (which works well by the way). They crack pretty easily so do not slap them on the water to dislodge grass. Once cracked they take on water and sink backwards ~ yes, they will still catch fish when worked but suspension is gone. The hooks are sharp and sticky but bend or break easily. If you catch a 5 lb bass on only one hook you can pretty much kiss it goodby because he will straighten or break the hook. Adding heavier hooks will probably subdue the action. Still, this is a great bait and a proven fish catcher, particularly in winter. If you don't have any Shadow Rap Shads, get some, you won't be sorry.

Comments: Great bait. These jerk baits hold up well - hooks are just fine for the first 10 bass - after that - yes change out your hooks - this bait hits that nice sweet spot at 5 feet and fast - the haymaker is a great color

Comments: They work well and have caught a ton of smallies on them, but as others have said, the hooks are a complete joke. I mean they are BAD and will definitely break within the first couple fish, I don't even know why they bother to put them on, you'd be better off splitting a beer tab in half and tying that up. Other than that, they have a good action, casts fairly well and haven't had any other durability issues, will continue to buy, but replace hooks.

Comments: This baits don't hold up to anything. Had two broke apart on 3lb bass and after sitting in my tackle box for a few months they all blow up like balloons. Very disappointed and waste of my money. From: Unknown: 6/30/19
Comments: Total junk. Bought 54 of them from Rapala. Posting here to save others the hassle. The lures look awesome but feel cheap compared to all other jerkbaits. The plastic is not high quality at all. I've caught a few fish on them. The hooks are crap. Don't listen to the fake videos of Seth Feider, Mike Iaconellie and so on saying the hooks are good. They are paid to promote them regardless of quality. The hooks suck. Half of them come dull and they bend out easily. The hooks will catch fish but you probably would want to change them. Now my biggest issue. I've been fishing since I was born. Never have I seen a jerkbait or any plastic lure have the issues this lure has. The bill on my 54 lures, yes every single one, has cracked and looks like a broken window with fractures running all over in every direction. Only 2 or three of the 54 have ever been thrown and the rest stored in a plano 3700 indoors. There is no reason for this other than poor quality plastic. Also I have spoken with others that have had theirs break after just a few fish. That all being said, I would recommend buying any other jerkbait other than Rapala Shadow Rap Shad deep or reg diving

Comments: A great bait with crap for hooks. First fish & the rear treble was mangled & broke when I tried taking it out.
From: Pat: MN 5/19/16
Comments: Bought three & two have taken on water & sink like a rock tail first. Seems like the seam along the back is cracked. The other one worked well & was a fish catcher
From: Bob: ME 5/12/16
Comments: I SMASH the spots on this thing here in Northern California. Dives about 8 feet or so. everything will eat this. I have caught bass about the size of the lure on it as well as solid 3 lb spots.

Comments: These baits are fish catchers. Hooks are sticky sharp but will break. These are slow risers not sinkers and if you want to replace the hooks use vmc vinadium size 6.
From: Todd: USA 3/20/16
Comments: The good- This bait has great action and catches fish, while not costing a fortune. The reflective finishes look great. The bad-the hooks are incredibly weak & they're difficult to replace unless you want to turn a slow sink into a race to the bottom. Without a weight transfer system, they don't cast all that great. Very limited finishes with all being flashy. How about a Table Rock or Pearl finish?Definitely has earned a place in my arsenal, but could use a few tweaks.
