Overview

Virtually invisible and almost invincible Seaguar Tatsu Fluorocarbon is at the apex of fluorocarbon evolution, and Seaguar’s strongest and softest line yet. Available in Japan for quite some time before it officially hit North American shores, Seaguar R18 Tatsu fishing line combines two 100% fluorocarbon custom resins using Seaguar's exclusive double structure fluorocarbon (DSF) technology. Super sensitive and abrasion resistant, the soft exterior resin provides tournament-grade knot strength and flexibility, while the hard interior resin vastly improves tensile strength. Seaguar Tatsu Fluorocarbon also sinks faster so you can maximize your time in the strike zone. Like the flexible, lithe, and armored scales of a Dragon (tatsu – means dragon in Japanese), Seaguar Tatsu Fluorocarbon has a tough, but soft exterior, which hides incomparable inner strength.

It’s strong and handles wellThe price is my only complaint with Tatsu, and I’ve been using it on several reels since it came out. It’s been very reliable for me in fresh and saltwater. I’ve landed really large silver salmon in Alaska on 10 and 12lb sizes. That’s in the salt and barnacle covered rocks. It’s certainly landed many bass in freshwater for me. I have used it in 8 to 15lb sizes. It’s a great jerkbait and crankbait line. I’ve use it on size 70 to 250 Shimano and Daiwa baitcasters with very little backlash issues. That’s across a full range of brake types and lure weights.

Amazing Line Worth the PriceThis is the most amazing line in the Seguar lineup. When money or big fish are on the line, this is the one to trust.

Best Flouro Leader AvailableI’m using Tatsu for leaders from braid to flouro on all my spinning rods. It handles smooth and is very strong. I typically run either Smackdown or x9 as my main line and then have an 8-12 foot leader of Tatsu. I use the crazy Alberto or FG knot for the braid to flouro connection. I’ve NEVER and I mean never broken Tatsu on this setup. My son caught a 5 pound largemouth on Seminole on a damiki rig and it wrapped him in a standing tree. He worked that fish for 5 minutes and it finally swam out and he caught it. The Tatsu was knicked up, but it held the fish. We’ve caught 10+ pound stripers and 5+ pound hybrids on this setup. If your drag is set correctly and you do not set the hook like a gorilla, then it will not break. I’ve used all the flouro lines available and this stuff is priced high for a reason. You get what you pay for… Tatsu is simply the best flouro on the market hands down…

Snaps easilyBought 8lb tatsu and this stuff is terrible. Using it on a aldeberan bfs. Have lost numerous fish and tackle due to a line snap. For its price save your money. Not even a drag issue, this line is brittle

Comments: Seaguar Tatsu is simply the best fluorocarbon line. Period. You spend thousands of dollars on bass boats, motel rooms, rod/reels and quibble about expensive fishing line? Really?

From: Ron: Rapid City S.D. 7/19/23

Comments: The fella below who bought the 8lb that broke at 6lb of force would be correct! Seaguar (as well as other domestic line manufacturers) bump their lb test ratings 2lbs higher on the box than the true strength. Take this into account when buying domestic lines (and that it will be true to what the box says for Japanese/foreign lines). Tatsu is an awesome line though, provided you can afford high end fishing line.

From: Scott S: Virginia 6/29/23

Comments: If you're reading this id definitely give it a try. Yeah it's pricey but it's incredible as far as quality is concerned. Very sensitive, casts like a dream, but strength is what stood out to me. Florida has a ton of weeds and other kinds of snags in our ponds/lakes so having something abrasion resistant and strong is important. The moment that sold me was when I thought I was snagged in hydrilla while throwing wacky rigged senkos and decided to try and pull it straight out with the dragged locked down. I quickly realized I had a 6lber hooked that was deep in the weeds. I managed to rip that thing free while also carrying a couple extra pounds of vegetation without any damage to the line. If I can do that on 8lb line, imagine how strong the bigger diameters are.

From: Unknown: Florida 12/24/22

Comments: Purchased (2) spools of 8.b test. Exceptional line management but it breaks every time with any fish over 3-4 lb range. Contacted the company and they asked what type of techniques etc. Bass fishing 40+ years. I told them I tested the line and it breaks at 6.3 lb range. After that I never heard from them again. Great line if you only catch the small ones. Even if you retie every cast.

From: Unknown: Connecticut 9/3/22

Comments: Believe it or not, it's worth every penny. It's like the old saying "You get what you pay for." Tried it when it first came out many years ago. Wears like steel and casts well in ALL weather. Knock on wood...have never had problem with line breaking or knot slippage. This is why I buy in bulk.....but not often. Don't need to !!!

From: Steve: Valparaiso, IN 5/22/22

Comments: I bought a 200 yd spool of 15# Tatsu. I've been using it for pitching light t-rigs on rocks and lay downs. The first time I spooled it up, I'd have swore this was the best line I've ever used. It has almost no memory, it stretches a little more than other fluoros I've tried, but I'd say the amount of stretch was perfect, honestly. I don't remember this stuff ever breaking, on a hookset or while fighting. However, once it was time to respool, I finished that same spool on the same rod for the same purpose. I've broken this stuff setting the hook almost every trip since. Also, I check my line religiously and retie before every trip, plus, multiple times while fishing. I don't get it!! I went from wanting to buy 1000 yd spools and using this line exclusively, despite the really high price, to searching for another line. I've started using 14# Gamma.... it has more memory and isn't as soft, has a larger diameter, but you almost can't break it, even it you want to.

From: Craig: Alabama 12/27/21

Comments: I've used every one of the more popular, as well as high end, lines that tackle warehouse offers. Tatsu is easily the most consistent in terms of quality, feel & strength. I break off way more often with the other lines out there. I also feel more connected to my bottom contact baits with this line over the others. If confidence in your line is worth the extra money to you, then do it. If you have expensive bottom contact rods & high-end reels then you are doing yourself a disservice by using something else, but if you are thinking of this for a crank rod then you should probably look at something less expesnive.

From: Duncan: Unknown 9/21/21

Comments: I really love this line, the cast is a lot smoother than Sunline. I was been catching big stripers with this back to back and man I'm surprised that this line is strong enough to keep the fight long! This Seaguar Tatsu line is definitely worth the money! Although, it's understandable that this line is pretty pricey for just one..

From: Jean: 5/4/21

Comments: For years, I have relied on Tatsu flourcarbon for all my braid to flouro leaders while smallmouth bass fishing in the worst line fraying structures on the Great Lakes! I've tried everything else but nothing compares to tatsu and I can fish with confidence that I will have a strong line as my leader. I think using it as leader is your best bet. More value and spooling all your reels can be super expensive! I don't recommend spooling up all your baitcasters with this as well unless you really need it! I have had great success with 6'lb and 8lb line sizes. I tie long leaders but I have caught many fish with frayed up leaders from zebra muscles and still had no break offs. I retie afterwards of course and have my drag set accordingly. This spool may be the most expensive flouro on the Market but if your are going for trophy fish or in big tournaments, get a spool of this line for leader material and fish with confidence! I put that Shark tooth band on the spool for easier leader tying!

From: Bobby: Hammond 4/16/21

Comments: Yes its expensive but its what I trust. I dont use fluorocarbon much and I think Ive only got one bait caster running straight fluoro. I use 12 lb. Tatsu as a leader for all my freshwater bass setups. 8 lb. + channel cats seem to love my drop shot lures on the river and Tatsu gives me the strength to get those submarines up off the bottom. Strong, soft and no memory. And if you need any additional convincing, oh yeah, I use 20 lb. Tatsu as a leader for albies in the salt. I rest my case.

From: Eric: Glastonbury, CT 10/28/20

Comments: I've used P-line, Seaguar (InvisX, Red Label, AbrazX). I use Fluorocarbon as a leader. I believe most people like Tatsu because of how it handles on spinning reel. To me, it's like InvisX as for as characteristics like being soft and supple. In my opinion Tatsu and InvisX are terrible for abrasive resistance. They both look like they've come thru a shredder if you get close to trees or rocks. Tatsu is not worth the extra $$$$. I'll continue to use P-line, Red Label or AbrazX. Can't really tell a lot of difference between those lines other than P-line seems to be more stiff. I had to try this line after all the reviews. Maybe my review will steer someone away from this line if they fish around cover.

From: Gene - 10/12/20

Comments: I bought 10lb-12lb on black Friday sales. I've been using it for dropshotting and leader line for finesse swimbaits etc. This is definitely better than the yellow or red even tho i still use them. Definitely going to need more before the sales but I'm saving for it. Going to order up 12lb-14lb test this time. This line is superior in strength. I've noticed I don't break off as much pulling hooks from deep weeds popping up. You get what you pay for. I wouldn't spool one real with it tho. This is just for adding leader material anywhere from 3'-6'. Definitely keeping the 10lb for cold clear months of fishing.

From: Jed: Rohnert Park, CA 6/8/20

Comments: Good line. Maybe the best. Yet, the line breaks randomly threw the spool. Not worth it.

From: Unknown: 2/19/20

Comments: Best fluorocarbon line I've ever used, period; and I've used a few... It's worth the money, especially if you fish events. Even serious weekend anglers would benefit from it if money isn't an issue. A little line conditioner here and there, and you're squared away.

From: Kyle: Illinois 2/14/20

Comments: This stuff is legit. Best fluoro I've ever used. I bought the 6lb to use as a leader to my Sunline Asegai 10lb braid and it's like PB&J. Knot strength is excellent and it's very, very smooth. It's tough as nails, and very sensitive as a leader and has virtually no memory. This stuff is simply the best. I'll be buying more when this runs out.

From: Ryan: 12/6/19

Comments: This line is amazing, no memory coming off the spool, soft and easy to manage. But the price tackle warehouse is selling it at is insane. I was just looking around in my local academy and they had the 20 lbs I bought from here for 59.99 for 39.99. Please save you money and find an academy if you have one close.

From: Andrew 5/1/19

Comments: Ok. So I broke down and bought this, cause of all the great things that I heard about it. Well, is it a great product of course it is. Is it worth the price imo no. Sunline sniper is not far from the quality of this...not twice the price quality for me. Cause if you blow up a reel and I fish every single day. It will happen. There just went $50 bucks. Maybe for a spinning set up yesBut for baitcasting I'll stick with sunline.

From: Mike: Louisiana Loui 3/24/19

Comments: Been using this for a while now - nothing else compares.   The total convincer was last fall.  Spent 6 1/2 dayson Lake Baccarac in Mexico.  Used 25 lb Tatsu exclusively.   The line was simply impressive.  Man handled 5,6,7,8,9,10,11 & 12 bass without breaking a sweat.  If you want the best.  IMO - this is it.

From: A-Jay: Northern, MI 2/28/19

Comments: Seaguar Tatsu is hands down the best fluorocarbon made. Superior strength, abrasiveness, can't say anything bad about it. Expensive yes but its the one thing that connects you and the hook. Need every advantage I can. Have used it over braid at Lake Falcon in South Texas with no issues for several years. Terrific product and can't ever see changing. Unfortunately for me you're located in California and I refuse to do business with businesses in your state. Gotta stand for something.

From: JWT: Texas 12/7/18

Comments: I've tried a lot of lines looking for low visibility, low memory, good strength, and knot holding ability. Invizx seemed the best till I got over sticker shock and tried Tatsu, Improved clinch knot has never slipped or failed in two seasons. I've caught my personal best bass in heavy weeds and cover and the line did not let me down, if I sound satisfied with this product....I am. I use 100 yds on each reel so it takes 2 200 yd spools a season, I tie direct to lure or hook, I'm convinced even big hook wary bass never see the line. Casting distance is great..what don't I like? Bite offs by pike and pickerel, and of course the cost, but when I hook a hog I don't want to be worrying about my line.

From: Unknown - Maine 12/4/18

Comments: Hummm... where to start.... I've always looked away from this line due to the price...well I had some extra money and figured I'll give it a shot.Of all the carbon lines I have used this truly is the best..I hate to say it because that means I'll be buying more and that's gonna hurt at that price point and having 5 rods to spool up.Ok so this line in comparison to the other top 5 lines..it is better in every way..near zero and I mean zero stretch and the line when it comes off the spool is strait NOT coiled up floating on top of the water...which every other line I used did..Knot strength, I'm using 15# and a double polamar knot and have not had a single issue..not a single break off and so far (2weeks of daily fishing) the line has shown no fraying..Casting? Well it casts. I'm using a Daiwa steez svtw on a 7' med rod..casting 1/4-1/2 oz cranks, 1/4 oz underspins... casts like a smooth wet dream..So if you can afford it get and try it. If you like  florocarbon you will love this stuff..the next step up from this is braid.Tightlines

From: Olman: Swfl 11/2/18

Comments: Don't think about the price, just buy it. It's literally amazing. Casts like an absolute dream and doesn't ever break. Best line you'll ever buy.

From: Unknown: 1/28/18

Comments: Best Fluorocarbon, period. I thought I'd prefer their new Flippin' line for the bigger rods but Tatsu is still better for flipping/pitching. It's not cheap but if you're buying fluorocarbon anyway, spend the extra money and buy this product. Sunline, Toray, and Megabass make great line but Tatsu is superior.

From: Kyle: IL 1/22/18

Comments: If you live in Australia and like bream spinning, this is the straight-through fluoro you want to fish - hands down. Thinner, more sensitive than Sniper FC (which I used for years), with better abrasion resistance. Great for sinking stick baits or any super clear water situations. 4lb is the lightest though.

From: Todd: Australia 1/11/18

Comments: The main Seaguar line i used was Red Label but I was going up to Mille Lacs in Minnesota and decided to order some 12 pound Tatsu. I would have 5-10 Zebra mussels on my line almost every cast then id pull them off and cast again then BOOM!!!! 4 pound smallie. line not even frayed! Great buy

From: Reese - Sand Springs 8/15/17

Comments: Got caught as a co-angler in local tournament, so I could only bring 4 rods.  I didn't think I would be doing any pitching, but that is wher the fish were.  I was skeptical that my 15# Tatsu flouro would hold up in the hyacinth, but it did!  I will no longer complain about price point, this stuff has proven itself beyond compare.  What memory it may have is easily subdued with KVD line conditioner and "pushing" the line occasionally.  World leading product!!!

From: JC: Huntsville, AL 6/26/17

Comments: It is very good fluoro, very limp, manageable, strong & good knot strength. The abrasion resistance when deep cranking rocks isn't that great though. It is good line, but not worth the price at all.

From: Tyler: Grand Junction, CO 6/19/16

Comments: Fishing 6lb in snag free ponds I never had this break. Caught up to 9lb Bass & had bigger that threw the hook. I use the best knot for fluoro & chap stick for lubrication. I Retie every day and after a big one, and don't tighten the knot on the eye or ring; but pull the line on both sides of the knot with both hands. I run the line out to get rid of twists, and use VanDam's line spray.

4/26/16

Comments: Great fluoro,I use the 25lb to throw around larger(3-8 oz) swimbaits & 15 for smaller ones(1-3). Price point is noticeably higher than some fluorocarbon lines but the quality is there & more.

From: Brad: OH 12/5/14

Comments: all I can say is wow. I thought Seaguar Invizx was something special and that's what I used to flip with(20lb). I figured I would give this line a try and I stepped up to the (25lb) Tatsu to flip with and I will never go back to invizx for flipping. Tatsu is very sensitive with low memory. smaller diameter than invizx but stronger

From: Stallings: Knox, TN 4/11/15

Comments: Never have I seen this line break. One trip south of the border for 4 days lake el salto two guys tossing this line 800 fish. Not open water fish either this is pitching and flipping heavy cover. Around sticks. And anything else you can imagine. Not a single break off! 12-25 lb tatsu/invizx then another 7 day trip to lake baccarac mid May. 100+ degrees 15 hour days. Same results. Best line on earth period.

From: Cody: Columbia Falls, MT 12/24/14

Comments: Spooled 1 rod with 12 and 1 with 15 recently. This stuff is pricy, but I've been very impressed. Casts very well, very supple, not too much memory, and pretty thin.

From: Shane: Santee, SC 11/28/14

Comments: a little secret. braid to floro leader. you won't have the break down in the spool

From: Vinny: USA 3/5/14

Comments: Bought 12# for my light worm rig because it was on sale. Seemed to be alright until after a couple minor backlashes made a cast and the line had broke 20 yards deep in the spool. This happened twice

From: Dave: Columbia MD

Comments: I have used may brands of fluorocarbon lines.  I have always had issues with the line breaking at or near the Palomar knot tied at the hook.  Not with TATSU.  I have used it all season and had ZERO rigs break at the hook.  For drop shot fishing, 8lb TATSU is now my #1 choice for great lakes smallmouth.

From: Jesse: Detroit, MI

Comments: I tried the 10lb test and the first fish I hooked snapped this line like a piece of thread. $40.00 down the drain. I took it off my reel and threw this stuff the trash where it belongs!

From: Freddy: bernice, ok

Comments: Let me start by saying that this is absolutely some of the best line ever made. There is a reason the price is what it is. I honestly can't even really think of anything negative to say about it other than the absurd price. However, I do think it is very similar to the Sunline FC Sniper. They are both high end line, but at about $10 less a spool, I have to give the overall nod to Sunline FC Sniper. If you try Tatsu though, I highly doubt you'll be disappointed.

From: Slade: Kansas

Comments: I bought a spool of 10# test Tatsu to use on my drop shot and shaky head spinning combos. I had been using Seaguar's InvizX. This line is 10 times better. It has noticeably less stretch than InvizX. It handles better than InvizX. It's more sensitive, and abrasion resistant. It ties knots a lot better, it does everything better. This is by far the best fluorocarbon you could ever buy for use on spinning gear. It's not even close. Yes, it's expensive. Will I buy it in heavier # tests to use on my bait casting gear? No. But then again, stiffer fluorocarbon lines aren't a problem on bait casting gear. It's expensive to be sure. But for what I bought it for, it's well worth the money.

From: Dave: Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio

Comments: I hate to be the Lone Ranger here but, this Dragon did not breath fire or fly for me /I purchased  2 spools of 10 lb.test  Tatsu and 2 spools of 10 lb. InvizX / it was like I was using 2 lb.test line / due to the small diameter any nick or rub on the line decreased the strength by 80 % and the line was so clear you could not see bad rubs /also, with the Tatsu I experienced line twist so bad to the point where on one trip I had to put the rod away and fish the rest of the day with my back up rig / I have returned the unused line for a refund and personally I should be refunded for the Tatsu that I used after all it's supposed to be the best line in the world. Down the road I might purchase some heavier pound test but, I can not afford to be using line that I have no confidence in and using knots that I have never tied before during this time of year.

From: Sam: Cardiff by the Sea, CA

Comments: Awesome assessment of the line Pat, very helpful. Anyhow, the 8# has been great for wacking rigging on a semi-slack line. The sensitivity is superior to any other line I've used and the "hype" is well earned.

From: Chad: Stockton, CA

Comments: Awesome fishing line!!You can fish it around zebra mussels, rocks, yank bass from grass all day. Long casting, super sensitive. I have been fishing for bass for 30 years, all over the country. By far the best flourocarbon line on the market now!

From: Tracy: Fennville, MI

Comments: Here's the deal. I fished every line out there. Ive been busted off and lost a lot of rods and reels in the drink because of it. False advertised line I despise. This is stuff is they best line on the market. Zero memory. Zero stretch. Abrasion resistant to say the least. Had a tournament with some friends last week and if it wasn't for this line it would have been game over. Hooked a bass close to heavy cover and it looked like he was playing magical chairs with the tree limb. Line held up tournament won! Good stuff well worth the money

From: Kevin: Kalispell, MT

Comments: I got a 40 yd spool of 8lb Tatsu when I bought a spool of Kanzen for free :) I am using it as a leader on my spinning gear. It has some memory, but it is  a very limp line. I will not be getting any more of this line, it is way too expensive for its performance.

From: Kyle: MI

Comments: Tried a spool of the 15lb.  Overall Tatsu is a very strong line.  Castability is pretty good but it still has a good bit of memory.  Like others I use a good bit of backing so I get two reels filled out of one spool.  It holds up well to the rocky lakes I fish in.  Price is terrible but I only have to use one spool per season.  Sticking with cheaper Fluro and Mono on my other reels.

From: Casey: Greenville, SC

Comments: I haven't tried all the different brands of fluro's yet but this line is great, cast like a bullet on my spinning rigs and no break of knot problems, I wish it was not so expensive, but might pay for itself over time

From: Vince: Jamestown, TN

Comments: This is definitely not worth the price, very disappointed in the performance for the cost. There are better fluorocarbons out there that are cheaper such as sunline or gamma.

Comments: This is the best fluoro I have every fished hands down.  It is on level with the YGK, hi end Toray and other JDM lines that I have tried.  I wish it came in 30lb test and .018 diameter or .020 diameter. I would not spool an entire reel with Tatsu....Most people don't cast 150 feet consistently unless you are chunking a rattle trap or big crankbait... 50 yards is 150 feet.  You can spool at least 3 reels and sometimes 4 depending on size and spool if you use backing.  One spool of this will last the weekend angler for a long time.  I fished one spool on 4 jig rods from February through October and never respooled.  I never had a breakoff related to a fish or abrasion and not one break at the knot. I have had only one other line (non braid) in the last 15 years that stood up to that and it was the original formula of Sunline Shooter in 25lb test.  I do wish it was cheaper and also 250 yard spools...then I could get 5 reels per spool.  Just my thoughts...

Comments: Flipped with Tatsu for an entire season. Sure it is expensive but it is by far the best flourocarbon and for flipping you only need to put 50 yards on (use backing) and it lasts an entire season. Considering I spooled four flipping reels and it lasted an entire season the cost is pretty reasonable. I used to change mono at least 3-4 times per season anyways and the sensitivity and abrasion resistance is so much better. Also, makes great leader material!

Comments: Absolutely the best fluorocarbon fishing line that I have ever used. Very strong with great knot strength. Still not worth $40 to fill a spool.

Comments: Tied on 20lb test and it was so limp and it casts so well, I had to double check because I thought I put on the wrong size line, amazing limpness and low memory  compared to any other line I've used. Only problem is my Curado 300 holds 240 yards of 12lb test and it only comes in 200 yard spool, so a 250 yard spool would be nice, especially considering the price.

Comments: Best line but 250 yards would make more sense, and be a better value. Another fifty yards would mean 25 more per spool, almost enough to fill two reels with good line for $50 bucks, plus shipping.  Still doesn't sound great, but in fishing line as in life, you get what you pay for.

Comments: Casting distance and sensitivity are about average to other flurocarbon lines. However, this is the strongest flurocarbon I've ever used. When I did encounter snags I would typically straighten the hook before the line would break. I cannot stress how strong the line is and on my most recent outting, I did not lose one fish to the line breaking. I don't have to tell you that this line is completely over priced but I'll gladly pay extra for peace of mind.

Comments: Best fluorocarbon line Ive ever used. Yes it is worth the money. Super soft and manageable and best of all, its super easy to cast.

Comments: I'm one of those guys that gets hung up - I throw it and work it in the nasty stuff. I lost about 40 lures in about 30 trips to lakes before Tatsu. After Tatsu I lost 3 in the next 30 something trips before the weather shut me down.  It is hard to pay that much, but from my math it pays for itself. There are other lines that won't break, but they aren't as manageable or invisible as Tatsu.

Comments: First, let me say that I am not a fan of fluorocarbon line in general. I don't like the brittleness and memory of it and would rather use a quality mono or braid. But let's face it, fluoro has it's advantages and situations where it is the best line. This is by far the best fluoro I've tried. I hate paying this much for it, but if I am fishing in a situation that calls for fluoro this will probably be the line I use.

Comments: Best fluorocarbon I've ever used but obviously very expensive.

From: Spiro: Chicago, IL

Comments: I'm impressed with this line, it's like fishing with a mono but with all the characteristics of fluoro, soft yet tough, low memory. Its like Invizx but much more manageable,if you like Invizx you'll love Tatsu.
