Strike King is offering this bait in their pro team paint scheme along with 3D red eyes and premium VMC vanadium cone cut treble hooks. The Strike King Pro Staff has also found great success while letting the Red Eye Shad free fall.
Upgrade Your Treble Hooks!
Kevin VanDam used the Strike King Red Eye Shad to help him take home his 3rd Bassmaster Classic Title at the 2010 Bassmaster Classic on Lay Lake. According to KVD's website his primary two colors during the 2010 Classic where the Gold Sexy Shad and Gold Black Back.
Comments: Definitely a lipless crank of all time. The stock hardware of the lipless is ok but I change out to hooks to your favorite round bend or EWG treble because the trebles aren't the best. Does definitely catch fish, but change out the hooks at least.
From: Unknown: North Carolina 10/2/22
Comments: Just got back from Mexico, where this bait rules! I was surprised at how easily it bounced through flooded mesquite branches. At one point I caught five fish on five consecutive casts. The 1/2 ounce model in just about any metallic color did the trick.
From: Joe: Unkown 12/12/21
Comments: These come with decent hooks on them and they're very easy to rip through vegetation. However the durability of the paint is absolutely horrible. I managed to beat most of the paint off of a brand new Red Eye Shad in just one tournament. I was catching fish so it must've been more about the profile than anything else but wow the paint didn't hold up to 8 hours of use.
From: Joe: Monroe, NY 06/21/21
Comments: I used to exclusively use strike king hardbaits. No more. Every single Crankbait I've gotten especially my red eye Shad lipless. Have had the hooks bend out after a big fish. And it's not worth buying these if you have to spend extra to get new hooks to put on. I would not recommend. I will be changing all of my baits from here on out.
From: Derek: Texas 8/18/20
Comments: I exclusively use the red eye shad, chrome and black, when I desire a hard bait, for over 5yr now. We catch all species consistently, speckled trout, reds, drum, white bass, large mouth, spanish mackerel, and even brown trout (ark). If it swims, it eats shad, and this lure is that. Many people first laugh when I pull it out salt fishing, and prove them otherwise, time and time again. Dont know what person say the hooks straighten, we land bull reds all the time, guess they dont have drag set. Lure cast great into wind, and I have turned on many avid anglers, and a few guides, to using this freshwater lure in the salt. I buy these 10 at a time. From: Troy: Deer Park 2/19/20
Comments: One of the best fall time lures your can throw and catch a giant limit. The treble hooks suck though, constantly bending out on 3+ pounder. I love these lipless cranks but if you are fishing waters with the potential to catch fish bigger than 2 pounds, replace your hooks. Nothing sucks more than losing a big fish due to hardware on the bait. Great lure though, would recommend experimenting with different colors on your lakes because you will eventually find that color that they're keying in on.From: Owen: Dallas, TX 11/18/19
Comments: These oddly enough catch Rainbow trout, I was fishing for Bass (smallmouth and largemouth) in my local lake and my wife and I hooked into 3 rainbow trout. They hit a Gold Black (me) and the Yellow Perch (wife) lipless crankbait. I've also caught my PB of a 6lb 12oz Smallie on a Chartreuse baitfish.
From: Robert - South Okanagan, BC< Canada 10/13/19
Comments: i love these lures!!! but they blow up to easy in the sun. out of all my lures these will be the 1st to blow up in my boxes. From: Dave: South Africa 9/11/19
Comments: I love the sexy chad. It helped me to catch my record 9 lbs. 12 oz. largemouth bass.
From: Unknown: 4/1/19
Comments: Favorite lipless crankbait! Whether you're burning this through open water, ripping it through light vegetation or yo-yoing it off the bottom, this lure will pull in bass from a mile away with the vibration and noise that it lets off. Stock hooks are pretty decent as well! If you don't already have one, you're missing out!
From: NewJerseyAnglin: NJ 9/2/18
Comments: Love throwing this around rip rap. Any of these with a gold finish works well on the Ohio. I swap out the hooks with triple grips. If you want the color and finish to last a little longer on these, buy some clear coat nail polish and apply a layer, you will be amazed how well this trick works.
From: Jesse - West Virginia 5/27/18
Comments: This bait is going to work in my near future I just opened the box and it scrams fish catcher I have the bream color and love it.
From: Logan: Tonasket, WA 12/30/17
Comments: I found a chrome with blue back Red Eye Shad someone lost on a stump, the hooks were rusted off and the split rings were weaken from rust. I cleaned up the bait when I got home and realized the chrome was flaking badly so I scrapped off all of the chrome finish till the bait was white. Next I installed new split rings and Mustad Treble Hooks and a new oval line tie. A few days later my partner and I returned to Logan Martin Lake and fished the same section of the river as before and I used the modfied Red Eye Shad and it out performed all other baits with over 30 bites in one day with only a few short fish. Best five would total about 13 pounds.
From: Jim - Rainbow City, AL 12/15/17
Comments: A flat out great lipless crank, perhaps the best on the market. Casts like an absolute rock, and has a great action on any retrieve from a lift/drop, to chunk and wind, to burning like mad. Colors are great as well. Gets hammered and inhaled!
From: Tyler - Grand Junction, CO 11/19/17
Comments: really like this bait but I do wish that they made it in a rock bass color in it for small mouth
From: Unknown 9/5/17
Comments: I have caught some hawgs on this lure in various colors. I like to throw both the 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz in Orange in stained or muddy water and the Sexy Shad in clearer water. Three weeks ago I caught one 8 lbs on one. I like to burn them in shallow water and around rocks in the Summer. In the late Fall and Winter, I like to pump them up and down off the bottom like a crippled shad. The bait has great action on the fall. My best day fishing the Red Eye Shad was with my wife. We had 5 bass that weighed 30 lbs. She caught the first one just pumping it up and down like I instructed and it was 7 lbs. These work folks! Don't waste your money on more expensive lip-less cranks. I've fished them all. And do yourself a favor. Watch the Kevin Van Dam video on how to fish these. It will make you better. I've lost count of the big fish I've caught on these.
From: Steve: Cary, NC 7/7/17
Comments: I can't say enough about this lure. It took awhile to find the right color but now I'm using the gold with black back. I've caught my biggest trout on this in West Virginia, my biggest bass in Illinois, and my biggest walleye in Colorado all on this lure. It's safe to say that this lure catches fish anywhere in the US. Fantastic product and my favorite lure to throw year round
From: Mike: United States 6/14/17
Comments: I have caught my biggest bass the last three years with this lure. They were 6lb (2015), 6.2 (2016) and so far a 5.2 (2017). I mainly throw the Gold Sexy Shad about 90 percent of the time. My most recent trip (02/23) I caught 23 bass and 2 crappie on it. I don't know what it is that drive the bass crazy but they hate this lure. I have a few other colors that I use but I have a stock pile of Gold Sexy Shads.
From: Ed - Mt Vernon, MO 2/24/17
Comments: By far the best lipless crankbait on the market! I cannot stress enough how effective this lure is all over the country. You can fish this bait however and wherever you want and still catch fish. I have won thousands of dollars in the past year on the Strike King Red Eye Shad, plus already $1000 dollars this year switching up with the new Tungsten Two-Tap! If I had to choose one color to stick with, your best bet would be Sexy Shad! I've caught fish from TN, AL, GA, FL, SC, NC, VA, KY, and LA on the Strike King Red Eye Shad and it hasn't let me down yet!
From: Christian: Lake City, FL 2/13/17
Comments: I bought 2. The first one the line tie came out first cast. The next one broke three casts later when it hit a causway. The second one had a little bit of an excuse but I hit the causway again with an h2oexpress and the H2O express was fine.
From: Bassinthesouthtv 2/8/17
Comments: When all else fails I know I can grab one of my red eyes and get a bite. I truly believe the Bass just cant stand them! (good thing) It drives them insane. I like sexy and tiger.
From: Scotty: Austin, TX 1/10/17
Comments: This is hands down the best lipless crank in the market. Works amazingly all year round and with each fish caught, never fails to amaze. If ever in need of a sure way to catch fish, get one if these, your almost guaranteed a fish.
Comments: Sorry folks but this is not a good product. 1 fish 100 casts later most of the paint is gone. Fished in open deep water, no hitting rocks or dragging the bottom. No reason the paint should be worn off.
Comments: Great lure for all year round. recently used the bluegill pattern during the spawn & man did I have some fun, caught around 12 bass largest being 4lbs. Can't wait to get out there again & try some different colors.
From: Jason: Tinley Park, IL 6/2/16
Comments: Great bait here at Toledo Bend. I own numerous patterns of this bait & all work well. Unfortunately the Chrome Black, of which I purchased 3 from tackle warehouse, each of them lost 2/3 to 3/4 of it's chrome in one outing. We are fishing open water & grass "not rock". This also happened to a buddy of mine today fishing the same cover. I going to call Strike King tomorrow. I recommend this bait highly, but be careful if you purchase the chrome models! ***UPDATE*** I posted about the Red Eye Shad in chrome and black losing most of the chrome in one outing. I contacted Strike King about the issue and was told to please send them back. I originally purchased a total of 4 from TW and sent the only one I hadn't thrown away or lost back to Strike Kink. Along with the "1" lure I sent my receipts from TW. Strike King not only replaced all 4 but sent me an additional 4 to cover the postage and the inconvenience of that poor lure design. That my fishing friends is what I call customer service at its best. THANKS STRIKE KING!
From: Sean: Leesville, LA 5/22/16
Comments: Really good bait. You can fish it a variety of ways and casts like a dream. I'm partial to red shades myself, but am very impressed with this bait. Pick up some & go catch ya some.
From: Jason: Westminster, MD 3/31/16
Comments: I've had great success with a 1/2 oz chrome sexy shad. All around great bait. Fishes great from fall throughout the pre spawn
From: Dalton: AL 10/26/15
Comments: By far the best lipless crank bait on the market. Catches fish year round & with all the color selections, you can't go wrong. And of course TW has them all. Pick you some up, great buy for the money !
From: Johnnie: Lancaster, KY 10/17/15
Comments: This lure in Neon Bluegill catches tons of fish!! However, the hooks both bent and broke off after only a 3 pounder. I used 15lb flourocarbon and a Med/Hev rod and managed to break off the hooks. Great bait, but put some replacement trebles in the cart too.
From: Joe: Grand Rapids, MI 8/7/15
Comments: These lipless cranks are a little pricey, but they are worth every bit of the money! As there is a lot of colors/patterns, I chose the good old Sexy Shad. I caught 13 bass in a small pond on the first outing! I was casting into grass and ripping it out. Unfortunately on the 3rd time using it, i got it snagged on something and it snapped my line. I will definitely be getting more of these!
From: John: Woodlands, TX 6/12/15
Comments: Best lipless crank I have ever fished! Using Gold Sexy Shad, got 8 today in cold muddy water in a span of 15 minutes yo-yo-ing, they usually hit it at the apex of the rip or on the fall. Lost about 4 more at the shore but I think that is me not playing the fish right, going to beef up the hook size slightly anyways.
From: Erik: Rochester, NY 4/16/15
Comments: I love this lure sexy gold shad is my favorite color caught small pike, walleye & bass all around awesome lure highly recommend it worth every penny and then some.
From: Jack: IL 2/23/15
Comments: Man I love this lipless. I bought a 1/4oz in the Green Tomato. Most of the lakes I fish in NJ are shallow and filled with junk grass, so the 1/4oz version is a little better for my area. Not to mention they are highly pressured and most of the lakes have clear water, sometimes stained. Stock hooks aren't the best, I replaced mine with #6 Gamakatsu round bends. Been fishing a pond lately and they love this thing. Had a 5lber shake me off 2 feet from the bank.
From: Nick: Vineland, NJ 1/7/15
Comments: I've tried quite a few colors in many situations with some mixed results. I seem to do much better on the XCalibur XR50. This isn't bad, catches some fish, just not as many in my experience.
From: Brian: Oak Forest, IL 12/26/14
Comments: Awesome lipless crankbait. Have caught numerous big fish on them with my biggest being a 11.2 pounder on the Citrus Shad color! They have a great rattle to them that call the fish. Only negative is the hooks. NEED TO CHANGE THEM OUT. The 11.2 I caught bent the hooks straight out, luckily she had a couple hooks in her so I could land her without the hooks breaking. Other than that GREAT bait!
From: Christian: FL 12/1/14
Comments: Great lipless crank. Only negative is the hooks really need to be upgraded. My favorite replacement hooks are: 1/4 Rd Eye Shad: Mustad KVD 1xStrong 2xShort Size 6; 1/2 Rd Eye Shad: Mustad KVD 1xStrong 2xShort Size 4
From: Kevin: Morgan City, LA 11/13/14
Comments: I have used a countless amount of lipless crankbaits in my past and none have caught me as many fish as the red eye shad by strike king. it is designed to perfection and is my go to lure! the shimmy on the fall attracts bass like none other and it never turns over, please do yourself a favor and purchase this cheap and effective bait
From: John: Pine Bush, NY 7/14/14
Comments: I really like these in the 1/4 and 1/2oz sizes. The hooks do need to be upgraded but that's the only negative I have. Best colors for me are neon bluegill, chili craw, and sexy shad. Yo-yoing seems to get more bites but have also had luck burning them too.
From: Michael: GA 3/13/14
Comments: Just upgrade the hooks, best lipless C/B.The only one you need.
From: Dachile: Yuma AZ
Comments: Such a great bait. I have a 1/2 ounce chrome sexy shad that has me tons of fish. And even with half the bait being white and bare of paint it's still catching fishFrom: Justin: Ohio
Comments: Best lipless crank on the market. I hated throwing lipless cranks until I started throwing this one.One some money on it over the weekend! From: Ben: KS
Comments: The Strike King Red Eye Shad has just produced the new South African record caught by August Lingnau. It is also responsible for my two largest smallmouth so far. They flat out catch fish and has an awesome flutter action.
From: Robert: Cape Town, Western Cape, South Afirica
Comments: this bait is dynomite i never leave my house without it. I have caught fish over eight pounds on it and it has been a big help winning tournamentsFrom: Bailey: Lakeland, FL
Comments: AWESOME LURE! Took this to my uncle's pond where he's having trouble catching them and wore them out. All I caught were 4 and 5 pounders. Blue and Chrome is the only one I use but the bad to the bone, bluegill, and sexy shad are some other good ones too.
From: Matthew: Gonzales
Comments: i used the pull and stop retreive to catch my first smallmouth of the year on it ( cant wait to use it on some largemouths!)From: Paul: WI
Comments: Great bait, no doubt but has flaws- Paint chipping, weak hooks, etc. 3/4 size is my favorite......These baits are made for yo-yoing, deadly fall too. Wonder why some colors have no "Red Eyes"? Kinda funny.....
From: Rusty TX, where else?
Comments: I've used almost every lipless there is and the bottom line is that The Red Eye Shad is the best affordable trap available. The thing just catches fish. From: Brice: Rome City, IN
Comments: great lure it is the best lipless crankbait I have ever used have caught a lot of fish on them tons of great colors to choose from
From: Trevor: lake Villa, IL
Comments: awsome bait, huge color selection over any bait, cast amazing i think the 3/4 size is too big tho, good quality build strong finish love it
From: Jake: PA
Comments: the baits are awsome!! i had an xcaliber and an aruka shad but they just lost their eyes and didnt catch fish like the red eye shad. my two favorite colors are chrome sexy shad and gold sexy shad but some times i will throw the neon shad color. get some of these and you will start catching fish.
From: David: Cali
Comments: one of the best rattle traps hooks are decent but could be changed...blue and green gizzard colors will catch em summer spring and fall! Very affordable as well
From: Digity: The Ridge, TN
Comments: You only need two colors in the fall- 'Blue and chrome' and 'sexy shad'... we catch up to 50-60 bass day on these lures. Great baitfor feeding and schooling fish..
From: Roy: Columbia, TN
Comments: Awesome bait! During the spawn when the fish are on their beds throw this bait at them. The rattles are perfect, not to loud not to soft. Also really good bait for a bad day, just tie it on and throw it out into the lake. The color choice's are amazing!
From: Andrew: MA
Comments: i have these things in orange craw and sexy sunfish and they have worked very well for me when other lipless cranks have not put fish in my boat. great bait
From: Tyler: Cincinnati
Comments: This is a great bait for all year. Can be fished many ways with success. If I was told I could only have one bait in my boat, this is what I pick. From: Basshunterclark: Rockwall, TX
Comments: best lipless crankbait out there! gold sexy shad and gold black are my favorite colors. i have had some luck on the sexy sunfish aswell. pulled a few 3 pounders out with that color. but the gold sexy and the gold black are my go to colors. your the best strike king!
From: Trent: Bentonville, AR
Comments: Great bait. I have it in sexy sun fish and red bone shad and they work great in the 1/2 ounce size. i catch fish all day long with these baits at the lake.
Comments: Sexy sunfish color is a killer on bluegill forage lakes - love these lures - stock hooks on 3/4 oz are fine out of package - beefy for the hogs !From: Lord of the shallows: MA
Comments: Best lipless out there. As for Jacob saying they get hung on everything I would say it is operator error.
From: Brett: IL
Comments: when you put your boat in a new lake that you have never been too, tie this thing on in a minnow pattern and 1/2 oz, position you boat 30 yards from shore and just start crankin. this thing will never let you down
From: Kurt: NJ
Comments: i like the black gold color, great for florida, but the hooks are terrible. change the hooks.
From: Kevin: Miami, FL
Comments: This bait is awesome!!! I caught 18 bass in 4 hours on this plug (and 1 bass was 8lbs)...The only down side is that I caught so many northern pike that they stripped all the paint off of it.
From: Jason: Ingleside, IL
Comments: Caught a ton of LM Bass with the crawdad color. I was unstoppable fishing from the back of the boat. The other guys in the group tied on cranks but didn't do as well as I did. Don't leave the dock without one of these tied on.
From: Kirk: IL
Comments: great baits but i like the Xcalaber better. this is still a great bait and it catches fish, just not my favorite.
From: Jonathon: Nashville, TN
Comments: These baits are amazing. They are best when theres a little chop on the water in my opinion or early morning and late evening. Ive caught several crappie on this bait also including a 2.5 lb kicker. Change the hooks
From: Tyger: Conway, AR
Comments: I see no need for any other rattle bait. They all do the same thing except this one has an exceptional fall. Plus it's available in tons of colors
From: KH: NJ
Comments: I went the whole year with only this lure on my pole, every kind of fish bites this, the 3/4 ounce chrome sexy shad is awesome
From: Shawn: Michigan, USA
Comments: Killer bait, great on the free fall it doesn't flop on it's side, vertical presentation, you can yo-yo it or rip it, last year the sexy shad version was dynamite.
From: Nate: Edmond, OK
Comments: Has Good action but gets hung up on everything it gets even close to. buy the one knockers or pay the money and get the best in the Ima rock-n-vibe
From: Jacob: Muldrow, OK
Comments: Awesome color selection and great action on the fall. Upgrade the hooks and they will catch more fish.
From: Sam: Indiana, USA
Comments: Cant beat them for the price and color selection. From: Michael: Malvern, AR
