Built for big lines, heavy equipment and tough situations, the VMC Heavy Duty Wide Gap Hook was designed with the help of Elite Series pros, incorporating tricks and tweaks that tournament pros have used for years to put winning fish in the boat, and applying them to one of the newest hook designs from VMC. Featuring a 3-degree offset point that may not seem like much at first, it actually greatly increases the hooking rate of the hook. Incredibly sharp and also equipped with a wide gap to accommodate a wide range of soft plastics, the VMC Heavy Duty Wide Gap Hook also comes equipped with a hook eye that is sealed shut with smooth epoxy resin to prevent your line from slipping through or getting damaged. The product of 200 years of hook making experience and decades of tournament experience, the VMC Heavy Duty Wide Gap Hook delivers the subtle changes and improvements that make all the difference.
Comments: My wife and I live on Lake Istokpoga and in Sarasota, FL. Both poga and the 20+ ponds we fish near Sarasota hold some big bass. We probably fish 5 days a week. My most common method to fish is weighted Texas rigged Senkos with EWG hooks. In the 50+ years I evolved into using Gammy superlines. In the last couple of months I had two events where big bass beat me by the Polmar slipping thru the hook eye. I invited my neighbor to fish my boat on poga. He brought six rods (my guest limit) all rigged as expected. As we were heading to our first spot he realized he didn't bring his worm rod. I pulled my wife's worm rod from the box and gave it to him. He inspected the set-up and cut the hook off. I asked what he was doing and he replied "I not losing a big fish with that hook". He then tied a VMC epoxy closed eye hook on and gave me a few packs. I tried them and now I'm hooked. I do need to get use to the 3 degree offset when rigging and they don 't seem as sharp as the Gammys. I always check hooks for sharpness and always have a sharpener nearby. I gave all my Gammys to my wife so that next time she is tying flies she can close the eyes with epoxy. For now I'm sticking with the VMC's.

Comments: The only hook thats in my Box, If it says VMC its in there... The biggest and most noticeable thing!! The sealed eyelet.. I had an issue before i switched to all VMC, I could not figure out why i kept breaking off... come to realize it was because the eye ets were NOT sealed and when attached to Braid it would just wither away at the line and with Floro? Well I thought it was me tying the not wrong.. NOPE... It was the knot getting cut from the open eyes...VMC strong long lasting hook...

Comments: I lost a massive DD bass on Lake Istokpoga last year after tossing a brushhog on a premium brand 4-0 EWG. Would have been my PB. I thought the line broke at the knot; but, after I wiped away my tears, close inspection revealed the knot was intact. It had slipped out of the hook eyelet at the gap. After that I switched to VMC with its sealed eyelet and now I fish with confidence. Also, the HD VMC is a darn good hook, sturdy and sharp.

Comments: good hook, especially strong for the size, I can texas rig smaller baits with the 2/0 and 3/0 sizes for smallies and the hook hooks itself when they bite with a minimum of agressivity also.

Comments: For flipping super hogs, beaver-style baits & such, I was usually using Owner Wide Gap Plus #5's & occasionally Mustad KVD pin EWG hooks. Lately I've been wanting to improve my hook up percentage & you can not snell knot any of the owners that I know of, nor the Mustads... These VMC's you can, and they have about the same (3%) extra 'over bite' as the Owners, which give confidence in hook ups... They are reasonably sharp. One or two in my pack of 5 I needed to touch up to be needle sharp... I run a #4 in a super hog or pit boss & the fit is perfect. Slightly larger baits like a kinky beaver I would probably try to fit a #5... They are strong, though not rediculously heavy guage wire (similar to the owners, but not quite as stout at Gami Superline...) If I could snell the Owners & they had a pin holder like the Mustad's there wouldn't be a reason to look at another hook. No company out there puts all the good ideas into one hook (which is just a matter of time!) & I will continue to keep my eyes open since this VMC doesn't have a the bait holding 'pin', however the offset on this has a sharply angled enough 'z' to hold baits as well you can expect. And the 'z' is not so deep/broad that it catches every weed as the t-rigged bait falls through (like the Owner J hooks do...). No problems with such hang ups at all. My hook ups have indeed improved, and for now this is my new EWG hook.

Comments: Works great as a trailer on an Eakins jig. I've landed a lot of nice bass with that combo. Fished slow dragged on the bottom, or hop it quick back to the boat. You'll flat catch 'em.

Comments: very solid hook. Used the 3/0 to texas rig a zoom u tale worm and nailed an 8 pounder the other day. Hook performed perfectly, no bend at all. From: Lane: TX
