Overview

The Yamamoto D-Shad is a new breed of soft plastic jerk bait. Although similar in profile to other soft-body jerkbaits, the Yamamoto D-Shad provides added advantage of molded-in-weight.

Consider those situations when you’re trying to work a fluke-style bait fast below the surface, the usual problem is keeping the lure underwater where it can do the most good. With Yamamoto’s unique formula, the D-Shad has the density to stay down even when worked aggressively. That’s huge, especially on lakes and rivers where bass respond best to erratic, high-speed retrieves.

When paused, the D-Shad also sinks much like a Senko - with a very desirable wobbling action - perfect for fishing it on the fall. Its thicker, heavier tail allows it to sink level and gives it a little shimmy. Available in a range of colors, rig the Yamamoto D-Shad like you would any other soft-plastic jerkbait - just with a lot less lead.

Fall Time FishingIt is Fall in the Carolinas. This bait performs so well on all of our herring lakes. Hartwell, Clarkshill, and Murray. Get several packs in the Olive Shad. You cant go wrong!

Favorite fluke style baitAnorher winner from Yamamoto! The D Shad is the perfect fluke style bait! I hate to leave a review on this one, it feels like I'm giving one of my key secrets away but I guess the cat is out of the bag already. I was put onto this bait by Brent Ehler and it didn't disappoint. It's got the action of a Zoom Super Fluke and the weight and casting ability of a Reaction Innovations Shiver Glide. It absolutely has a shimmy on the sink! It's heavy for a fluke style bait and rigged weightless you can really sling it. Awesome color options but my two favorites are Olive Shad and Green Gizzard. I fish it on a Dobyns Champion XP 703 with a Daiwa Tatula 80 reel. 16 lb Sunline FC Sniper. A great hook for this is a Owner Wide Gap Plus in 4/0 size. The 4/0 fits it perfectly. I don't bother with other fluke baits anymore. This is the last one I'll need! Awesome job Yamamoto!

Great Edition to your Tackle BoxSolid performer. Using a medium spinning rod, Gamakatsu 4/0 extra wide gap hook on 8-pound Seaguar InvizX Fluorocarbon. This lure is always working; on the twitch or drop. I go with the shad colors but also the green pumpkin. Wishing they'd make a green pumpkin with chartreuse tail. I fish in Northern NJ and Sunfish are the primary forage here.

Comments: I fish these 3 ways. I fish them weightless with a Gamakatsu 3/0 extra wide gap hook on 8-pound Trilene XL. I fish them on a Keitech roundball tungsten jig head. I also fish them Texas style with a tungsten slip sinker. Very versatile bait that has been around awhile but is still the best. They can tear easy, but I usually get multiple fish on each bait if I am careful how I thread them on the hook.

Comments: Bought the D-Shad's because I love the Shad Shape Worms and wanted a larger profile to sink faster and cover water quicker. I modified mine to look like an XL Shad Worm. I received the package yesterday, modified the baits went fishing today and now I'm back to order more! It was insane I fished a river and I caught many, many smallies and a small musky! These baits catch fish!

Comments: Versatility like I have never seen. There are a lot of lures that work okay in several applications, but this one truly excels in whatever technique you can imagine. Of course you can fish it like a normal fluke around timber/grass, but the weight allows you to fish it much faster. Its great for pitching when fish are suspended around cover. It falls very similarly to a senko but with a little added rolling action. Even works in open water when fish are chasing a jerkbait but just wont commit to it. In that scenario I will add nail weights to both sides of the belly to get it down even further. Caught fish in 30+ feet with that method. The only downside is the 2-3 fish durability. Grab a pack and play around with them, they will quickly become a confidence bait for you.

Comments: I use the d shad over the fluke and other brands because of its weight and consistency out of the package. No bent bodies like flukes and no reason to add a weighted hook or split shot. Caught my PB (8.1) last weekend using black shad color and have caught hundreds on watermelon red flake.

Comments: down when you work them.... they aren't as durable but when you are getting bit its worth it !!

Comments: I have always been a fan of Yamamoto Lures but I had not tried the D Shad until late this past fall. I have always liked throwing Flukes and The Strike King Caffeine Shad and these two versions of soft jerkbaits had always been my top choices until I picked up a pack of Olive Shad I Yamamoto D Shads out of a discount bin at a local Tackle store because the price was too good to pass up. A friend and I took a trip to a river in eastern TN and after throwing everything in the boat for 3 hours without a bite I rigged up a D Shad weightless on a screw lock hook and the rest is history. I ended up landing around 20 Largemouth and smallmouth that afternoon and the D Shad is now in my soft jerkbait rotation. It is a little heavier than the standard soft jerkbait but it does remain horizontal and has an awesome senko like shimmy as it falls. It is another great offering from the Yamamoto line of Lures and I highly recommend it!

Comments: The D Shad has taken the place of the Senko in my tackle box.  It has more shimmy on the fall and can give it just enough swimming action in tight spaces to trigger the strike.  The D shad is my new go to bait for Delta fishing.  Hint: I use the Z-Man swim bait hook with the unique nose keeper.  It will extend the life of your D shad 3 times over.  The keeper can easily be removed and added to your favorite swim bait hook.

Comments: Great bait, was home in Nova Scotia for August and hooked a smallmouth in the 24 inch range, the thing looked like a 2-10 board with a tail. Only to have it find deep water & snap my line line it was nothing. Love the sink rate, not sure which I like more the Zoom super Fluke or this, tough call.

Comments: The only color you need is smoke for clear water period. I have used numerous manufacturers in this color & garys bait outfishes them 10 to 1. pay the extra cause smoke in clear water is the bomb especially for smallies

4/21/16

Comments: The size/weight/sink rate on this lure is perfect. It does require some scent but they catch bass. Use the Perch color on bedding fish and hold on! The Lime Fever and Midnight work in slightly stained water and any shade of green works in clear. I fish them weightless on a 4/0  Owner Twistlock Open Gap hook & skip them into targets.

From: Paul: TX 3/29/16

Comments: Oh yes! Heavier than a fluke... gets bit on the fall (a lot)...fish hang on to them better than a fluke...but, they are fragile like a fluke. Oh well, it's the price you have to pay to play! Two thumbs WAY up.

From: Jay6: USA 7/7/15

Comments: Not durable but buy some MEND-IT. I love the weight...you can fire them to Canada with the wind at your back. I let them sink to the bottom, but watch my line b/c a lot of times you will pick up and one has it. Awesome bait that a lot of people don't use, which is way cool with me.

From: Jay6: USA 6/29/15

Comments: the d shads are by far one of the best overall jerkbait producers I've ever used. Now just like the last review these will only last 1 or 2 (if you're lucky). The nose is the first to go so what I do is clip the bad part of the nose off to get more use out of it. I've clipped off up against the bend of the belly and it still catches fish. I don't leave the house with out one tied on when that type of bite is on.

From: Brizzle: TN 4/27/15

Comments: In 3 trips I've brought 3 packs of these baits and every one has caught a fish. They usually last about 1-2 fish and then you have to put a new one on because they rip so easy but I will continue to buy them because they just straight catch fish. The wacky-worm-like fall with a faster fall rate because of the heavy salt is killer. These things get er' done!!

From: SoCalfishing4Pigs: Orange County, CA 10/6/14

Comments: These things flat out catch fish. Great shimmy on the fall and great action when twitching and working it like a worm. White has produced for me even on the toughest days this year.

From: Dan: CT 8/14/14

Comments: this d shad is small but really effects drop shot and bed fishing is my way to going..on my behalf the smallest lures are the biggest key to all big bass diet even when the are not feeding or active...good job Yamamoto.

From: Pmoua: CA 5/19/14

Comments: Well like meatwad said "Fluke the fluke!! Com'on man it's made by Yamamoto this little bait is the best soft jerkbait on the market. Buy'em up, you won't be disappointed!!

From: Mrbond007: East Lansing, MI

Comments: what the fluke? this is flukin WAY better than the fluke. The shimmy on the fall...?..ehh, it's just OK, but they cast 7 miles and the fish hang on to em. Fluke the fluke in the ear, fish this one here.

From: Meatwad: Fluke U

Comments: this is my favorite fall soft plastic jerk bait and sight fishing lure. it has a great falling action that seems to trigger the fishes bite. it great for sight fishing because it doesn't fall to fast on a weightless hook. also, GET SOME SMELLY JELLY TO GO WITH IT CAUSE U NEED SENT!
