Overview

Designed by Elite Series pro’s, Brett Hite and Morizo Shimizu, the Z Man Chatterbait Jack Hammer is one of the most refined and highly anticipated vibrating jigs to ever hit the U.S. market. Featuring an exclusive, low center of gravity head with a flat bottom and a super thin yet super strong stainless steel blade, this combination ensures the Jack Hammer starts vibrating quickly and also allows it to hunt side-to-side like a real baitfish. Its signature head and blade combo allow it to deflect off cover very easily as well, and also make it a great choice for skipping under docks.

A channeled groove along the bottom of the head also positions the blade low enough to strike the head and produce its signature “chattering” sound. The channeled groove prevents the blade from dropping out of the eyelet as well, so it never stops vibrating. Premium hand-tied silicone rubber skirts in a range of immaculate colors provide additional lifelike action, and a Gamakatsu Heavy Wire Hook ensures an ultra high hook-up ratio. A double wire baitkeeper holds your soft plastic trailers securely in place as well.  The number one choice of renowned “Bladed Jig Master”, Brett Hite, the Z Man Chatterbait Jack Hammer is responsible for more Tour-level tournament wins than any other vibrating jig on the market.

Tackle Warehouse Exclusive Colors:

-TW Ghost Green Gizzard Shad

You of the best largemouth lures ever madeThese things are incredible for largemouth fishing whether it be around grass or open water. There’s something about the way these things vibrate that just make them react. Favorite colors are Bhite Delight and Blueback herring, pair them with matching 4.5” spunk shads.

Hooks on the Evergreen ChatterbaitsThis is a review of not only the Chatterbait but all major brands of hooks currently on the market. I’m am paying 16 dollars on a bait that 9 out of 10 times will not stick a fish right out of the package and the ones that will have to be sharpened after every fish. This is not acceptable. Please improve the hooks on these expensive baits.

Great bait, but...Obviously this is a great bait. Everybody and their momma's know that. But man, they need to do a better job with the paint on the blades wearing off so fast. The new TW black/blue color is my new favorite, but after a few outings, half the black paint on the blade is worn off.

Jackhammer+Chatterspike=$$$I've thrown every chatterbait Zman has to offer except the new Evo. A 1/2oz Jackhammer is the best performer in over 90% of situations for my waters, with the exceptions being when the fish want the Mini Max or I need to throw a different weight Jackhammer. You can let someone hustle you into a ton of colors, but a shad color and a somewhat green/brown color are all you will ever need. There's no point in complaining about price. With a pack of Chatterspikes as trailers, you can catch more fish on 1 Jackhammer than you can catch on 20 packs of Senkos if you don't break off, but you still buy Senkos because they produce when you need them to. You catch more fish on a Megabass than a Rapala, and you buy the Megabass because it produces better. When you want the best tool for the job, an extra few dollars shouldn't matter.

Support BHite for RetirementI only use this bait. My favorite Combo is the 3/8oz White with the 4 inch Zako Chartreuse Shad Laminate. Boom! Doing my part for Brett's Retirement Fund! LOL ;)

Hate to Say ItI hate to say it, because prices have gotten unreal, but these work. The only chatterbait close was the ORIGINAL D&M Piranha, and they got sued by Z-man. That being said, the Jackhammer is still better. Something with that head connection design just works. The hunting action and quick thumping catches fish. Another sleeper is the Jackhammer Stealth. Don't like the price, but without a doubt the best. Honestly the other company's "premium" chatterbaits aren't there yet.

Not Worth ItI have been fishing a lot of chatterbaits over the past number of years. In that time I have been comparing this Jackhammer and the original. I have wanted to like the Jackhammer. Partly because it does have better parts. But to also be in the cool group of fishermen. But the fish do not know what parts are used. All the know is the looks. Almost identical. And the vibration. Very different. I have found over the past 3 years comparing them. I get more bights on the original chatterbait over the Jackhammer. I think the reason is the vibration difference. I think the Jackhammer at times vibrates to much and turns the fish off. And the fish don't see the original as much since everyone is convinced the Jackhammer is the way to go. As I lose my Jackhammers, (I have only one left) I will just get the original to replace it. I am now starting to compare the Original to the Elite EVO. Time will tell if I switch the that one.

Previous Feedback

Comments: These are overpriced but they are without a doubt big fish catchers. Caught my pb smally on bhite delight. The paint on the blade is a complete joke though. For what they charge for them there's no excuse for chipping paint after two fish. Great bait but wtf.

From: Unknown: 9/23/23

Comments: I finally have to say it: the Jackhammer outfishes the other versions of the Chatterbait. I think we all know this by now, but I JUST figured that out after trying to make other versions work behind a guy fishing a Jackhammer. Yay...more money I need to spend.

From: O'Billy Dudewright: 7/13/23

Comments: Fantastic bait, absolutely catches fish. Pair it up with a nice trailer (Zamora/Crazy Flapper, etc) and you won't be disappointed. It's hard to justify the steep price, when the blade paint chips off after a few fish. Very frustrating, they have to do something about that. Otherwise, it can't be beat!

From: Gary: New Jersey 4/28/23

Comments: Quality Cricket, wish it was better fur the cost. Pros (good hook maybe wunna the best, quick start up I won't deny that; skirts are whatever good colors n not terrible but I don't tie skirts; Yet, a bummer you can't slip on a different skirt in 30 seconds if yur Nose Says So like many other bladed jigs allow. Cons (ugh, the chatterbait elite has a 10x better snap to blade connection just sad to see a sub par snap fur twice the cost; I enjoy LANDING my next PB... This Cricket catches em, just don't feel the need to have more than 10 in my box.

From: Andi: Oregon 4/15/23

Comments: The Bass have spoken too many trips! They want the Jackhammer! I can't tell you why really BUT It WILL out fish any others and I have used them from thousand island NY all the way to where I live in central Florida.

From: Unknown: 4/10/23

Comments: This is the best bladed jig on the market. That being said, I think there are a few tweaks Z-Man could make to make it even better. First, I think they could do a better job with the paint. It chips too easily. Second, I really wish they didn't use a thin wire keeper. The original Chatterbait has a traditional lug-style keeper that I think works way better. In my experience, the thin wire style doesn't do much more than shred your plastics to bits. This can be mitigated by snipping the Jackhammer's keepers off with a pair of side cutters. Other than those 2 gripes, I love these things. They're made with top-quality materials and get you a lot of bites.

From: Unknown: Massachusetts, USA 8/15/22

Comments: Great baits, but as another user mentioned, the paint issue is awful. The paint is poorly applied, very poor. For a bait of this cost, logic is the same process that colors the head should be used on the blade. After a few fish, the blade is no longer painted.

From: Larry: Unknown 7/17/22

Comments: I finally broke down and tried one of these after reading all the reviews of how "thumpy" it is, and many years of cannibalizing and building my own chatterbaits in the image of the now extinct Gambler Swim Blade. I will say that this bait works as soon as it hits the water, the construction and quality top notch, it is difficult to foul, runs true, and you gotta love the BMF style hook. However, it doesn't thump as hard as baits that have the blade attached via split ring. Just saying there are "jack-hammerier" bladed jigs out there.

From: BMD: Humboldt County, CA 7/7/22

Comments: Great bait but they need to work on the integrity of the paint job on the blade. 1-2 fish and 80% of the paint comes off so I end up having to remove the skirt and the eyes to Pro-Tec Powder Paint them and bake them which makes them last way longer.

From: Unknown: 6/21/22

Comments: Picked one of these up just curious about the price difference between the Jackhammer and the Project Z.. Let me tell you, just like all the other reviews these things catch fish noticeably better. What I love most about the Jackhammer is the way it comes through grass, how many times have you missed a fish because your rod tip was too high coming out of grass? Too many, that's how many. Not anymore, these puppies come right through with a couple of fast pumps of the reel. The other difference is the blade has zero dwell time, the vibration starts immediately on the retrieve. If you're buying any other chatterbaits than the Jackhammer, you're downright wasting your money.

From: Austin: Oklahoma 4/5/22

Comments: I mean there is not enough good things to say about this bait. I said I was never going to use a jackhammer because of the price. Well I bought one used it, and haven't touched my other bladed jigs since. These simply just vibrate so much harder and catch more fish. The wire tied skirts are awesome and the dual wire bait keeper is amazing. I use a z man razor shad on the back and it looks awesome. My favorite color by far is bama bug. Something about that color just catches fish. Totally worth the extra money!!

From: Dylan: Minnesota 2/24/22

Comments: These things are fish catchers for sure. I still use the first one I ever bought. I have to repaint the blade on it because I've caught so many on it that the green pumpkin blade is now silver. I see some complaints about the price. I guess i may look at things a little differently. How many fish do you catch off  3 $6 bags of worms? My answer is about the same a one Jackhammer is you take care of your line and can cast pretty accurately.

From: Joe: Texas 2/15/22

Comments: Nice bait! I use the "Spot Remover" color with a white rage tail with the tips dipped in chartreuse garlic.  Works great!

From: Dean: Yukon, OK 9/9/21

Comments: Fantastic lure. Does great with bass and with pike in my lake. I like using the 3/4 ounce model to fish shallow or over submerged weedbeds, and the 1 1/4 ounce model in 10-15 feet of water. I've also caught two muskie this summer with it. Everything component of this lure is built with quality in mind. Just don't get it stolen from any toothy predators in your lake. Use a steel leader or high lb. test flourocarbon leader tied to your main line.

From: Jeff: Canadian Lakes, MI 8/27/21

Comments: This thing catches fish! I dont know what's so different from the original but this thing just outperforms it on every level. It is worth every penny. Just don't let a 5 foot long gar get a hold of it and snap you off.

From: Kaleb: Arkansas 7/22/21

Comments: It gets a lot of bites. You will lose some fish on this bait for whatever reason. I think it is the thin hook. Get them in the boat asap. The 3/8oz is my favorite size.

From: Trey: Guntersville, AL 7/18/21

Comments: Definitely the best out there! Caught multiple 4, 5 & 6lb LM along with my PB 7.18 this year. My confidence lure prespawn through summer when they shut down.

From: Brandon: Georgia 6/25/21

Comments: Unbelievable for smallmouth up north when they wont eat much else.

From: Unknown: 5/24/21

Comments: Went night fishing with a buddy who threw the O.G. I was in the back of the boat so he had first dibs on all the juicy spots. I would cast behind him and pick off fish and ended the night catching 3 more than him. This bait is just different! The bass can't stand it!

From: Paul: 5/24/21

Comments: I like the jackhammers but very frustrating. I have had the hook tip role many times on it, if you are a tourney fisherman better keep an eye on it. I have had two snaps break and contacted z man and it was terrible customer service. But the bait flat out catches fish. Can not beat it for that. It is annoying for 16 dollars for what makes it so special to be breaking or messing up.

From: Kobe: Harlan, KY 4/22/21

Comments: I don't notice a difference between the hook ups with the $5 zman chatterbait and the zman Evergreen chatterbait. They both obiously vibrate differently than eachother. I guess I would start with the $5 chatterbait and switch to the Evergreen if the bite slows down with the cheaper chatter.

Comments: Bought a couple Jackhammers. Let me tell you these things catch fish. Definitely recommend. Fished with Strike king rage grubs

From: Bill: Wurtsboro, NY 3/30/21

Comments:  I like to use the 3/8oz bladed jigs on a Alabama rig. It gives the bass something new to look at and has great action. I either use white in stained or muddy water or a shad color for clear water. What's better than one jack hammer passing by a bass's face? How about five of them!

From: Mike: Georgia 3/3/21

Comments: Flat out catches fish. Idk why ppl are complaining about the price point. If you feel it's too much, don't buy it.

From: Tim: Hayward, CA 2/17/21

Comments: A bit pricey but after my first season exclusively using these on pike and bass they all are in great shape. Other bladed jigs have gotten destroyed after a few big pike but not these. Worth the bucks for the durability alone not to mention the fish catching abilities.

From: Herman: Wisconsin 2/7/21

Comments: This bait catches fish. I started out using the Z-man originals and they work great but get caught in weeds easily. The jack hammer is a little pricey but worth it. It starts to vibrate as soon as you start to reel and doesn't get hung up in grass as much. I have been nay had the skirt come completely of 1, and I have been fishing these ever sense they came out. I have caught my PB on it (9.2) and love them. If you have the money to get a bunch I would highly recommend it.

From: Unknown: 2/3/21

Comments: Best bladed jig ever made. keitech 4.8 with matching keitech skirts in perch, sungill and bluegill. Dont get locked in to factory colors. Keitech bodies with matching skirts. I remove color off head trow natural lead. Best kept secret in bass fishing. Heat the paint till it bubbles let cool comes right off.oh remove eyes fist trow away. The heavy one is my go to shallow or deep.try it you will see.

From: James: Missouri 1/12/21

Comments: Overpriced junk. I broke down and bought one for it to arrive with a stuck together shirt and the head is covered in paint so their patented connection point won't move at all. Guess they saw how hot they sold so they no longer care about quality control.

From: Unknown: Nashville 1/3/21

Comments: I just started to get into chatterbait fishing this year and it had been very productive all year long. The Jack hammer is definitely the best one on the market right now. It keeps the soft plastics locked on to the lure, but it will cause the soft plastic, like a Zako, to be ripped apart if you take it off. The only thing I don't like is with it is if you purchase one of the colors that has a green pumpkin lip due it being painted on and it will chip off, especially if you fish around pike. If this wasn't a problem it would be perfect in my book.

Although I genuinely love the new Stealth blade Chatterbaits & had great success I also experienced a quality issue (specifically with the skirt). During the initial use on the lake with two different colored Stealth Bladed baits the skirt totally dislodged on both baits and then simply fell off. This is not okay for a $16 bait to come apart on the first use! Someone at ZMan needs to seriously investigate this and figure out why the skirt is coming loose.

Comments: On a recent night fishin trip we caught 53 bass in 4 hours on a popular Southern Illinois lake. My son and a buddy from work were throwing the "Original" and I was using the JackHammer. All 3 black and blue with a ragetail craw trailer. I caught 34 they each caught 9. I was sceptical as well but that changed my mind for sure.

From
: Dave, Illinois 10/12/20

Comments:
Absolutely love this lure. I was skeptical at first due to the price, but I picked a couple at one time to try out. I combined a 1/2 oz Bhite Delight with a Keitech Swing Impact FAT trailer and caught 3 decent sized bass in less than 20 minutes. The original and the elite chatterbaits got the job done, but after using the Jack Hammer I won't go back.

From: Luke: Oklahoma 10/5/20

Comments: So after having success with the Original and the Custom Chatterbait I decided to give the notorious Jackhammer a try. Here are my opinions.
GOOD: The jackhammer starts up noticeably faster than all the other Chatterbaits upon retrieval or after running into something. The action is different as well but in a good way, it has a faster/tighter and stronger vibration than all the others. For example on the original Chatterbait, the action seems to be more of a thumping feel vs a erratic vibration like a lip-less crank bait that the Jackhammer has. This Chatterbait comes equipped with 2 wire keepers which is a plus in my opinion so you wont have to fix it after a fish or after every cast.
BAD: As the same for everyone else... THE PRICE! still a ridiculous price that will keep me away from buying more. Personally I didn't have any issues with the components (hooks, blades, keepers etc.) on the lower end models so I can't justify paying $15-$18 (vs $4-$8) for a slightly better hook and 2 wire keepers and a slightly better blade. Not only that, the Original and Custom both caught fish in the same places the Jackhammer did. In all honesty, The Chatterbait Custom isn't far from the Jackhammer in terms of quality and it is available at a much much lower price point.
The custom is what i would call the best of all worlds in the Chatterbait world. Bottom Line: It's the Best of the Best in the vibrating Jig world but that comes at a cost. up to you to decide if that's worth it.

From: Chen: Lafayette, CO 8/26/20

Comments: So theres good and bad that I have found so far. I fish alot (4-5 days a week, roughly 8 hours every outing), so my gear really gets put to the test. So here is the good. It brings the bite, and usually solid hits too, from multiple different species. I can feel the vibration of this thing in my hands on the rod with almost any retrieve speed, and i easily get double the bite frequency with it, as well as a great hookup ratio and landing ratio, as compared to the project z, that i have had issues with them staying hooked. I also love the colors that are offered in them and would like to see as big of a color selection as the original has at some point. The skirts hold up very well too, havent had any issues i guess due to them being wire tied on. Now the bad... I recently got the green shad color to fish 3 tourneys on a cypress lake with. Performed as expected until my 5th fish... the tie clip on the blade came loose and bent almost straight leaving me landing the fish on the small clip hook left and never could get it bent back right resulting in failure to swim/chatter correctly but still managed a few more decent fish but with some hookup problems. On inspection back home, the HOOK HAD BENT! after only 8 or so fish... this was extremely disappointing to me for a $16 bait. now ive had to order another after just one outing. I really wish they offered these colors in the project z for half the price if thats how theyre going to hold up.

From: Kohl: Dry Prong, LA 8/1/20

Comments:Expensive!! But worth it .. don't let a $10 difference Stop you from catching chattebait bass .. not exactly sure what kinda magic is used in this expensive bait .. but it just works . Highly recommended.. it's impossible now to throw or buy any other chatter bait .. just like the megabass jerkbait .. their can only be one king !!

From: Dean - Las Vegas, NV 7/14/20

Comments: Worth absolutely every single penny. They come through sparse to moderate grass and even tulles like a champion. The vibration is hard and loud.I fished them with a burn and quick pause retrieve, and the strikes are more violent than even a spinnerbait. Tip them with a matching Yamamoto zako, find some grassy flats, especially during a little breeze, and hang on.

From: Tyler: Grand Junction, CO 6/10/20

Comments: I have been a big fan of the Original Chatterbait for a long time, and can say that the Jackhammer is an upgrade in all aspects. However, beyond the more diverse skirt selections and upgraded fit and finish of the Jackhammer (which I believe are more important to the anger than the fish), the only two tangible improvements over the Original Chatterbait that matter to me are:(1) it does start its vibration just a little bit sooner than the Original and (2) the trailer keeper is superior. Is this worth spending $15 as opposed to $5?Not in my opinion. Now, full disclosure:90% of my fishing is from the bank over water that I do not have the advantage of using sonar to identify underwater hazards. So if I am going to be throwing asubmerged open-hook bait in these conditions I'd rather risk a $5 Original than a $15 Jackhammer.

From: Bill: Florida 6/5/20

Comments: Well I've fished these long enough to give honest review ... the Jackhammer straight up out fishes other chatterbaits . Trailered with a Zoom Z Craw (green pum / Flash) , these baits are deadly ! They really do make a different sound , and have a different feel. Bass love when u drop on a retrieve . The only knock I have is the paint on blade comes off after the first 100 fish and the skirts get torn up .. by fish 200 your jackhammer is coming apart :(but hey 200 fish later but trust me that should take long ... $16 for a chatterbait is steep but worth it , get ready to swim if you hang up

From: Rance: Mission, TX 5/19/20

Comments:I have three types of Z-man and two other brands and the Jackhammer is by far the best. It starts faster, vibrates harder and can be fished much, much slower than any other chatterbait. I hate it, because yes they are over priced, but I will be buying more for sure.

From: David: Dixon, MO 5/14/20

Comments: OK, I was leary. This thing can't be that much better or different.Wrong.Put a normal bladed jig on and your rod tip will have some vibration. With the Jack Hammer, your rod tip DANCES.And, it flat catches fish.I bought a simple, white 3/8oz model.I've about worn it out.Love to fish it and it is the first bladed jig on my lake that has consistently produced for me.I've ordered a couple more and can't wait until they arrive.

From: Unknown: Shell Knob, MO 4/14/20

Comments: Great vibrating jig. Lots of vibration and great detail. However, is it worth 2x the price of a Picasso Shock Blade? Hard to tell this early but i am satisfied with them. Just gotta look out for deals or buy JDM to get them cheaper.

From: Zack: Indiana 4/14/20

Comments:It improves on the OG chatterbait, sure, and I'm sure this gives everyone that loves this bait confidence. But real talk, I catch just as many on my elite chatterbaits. If you are on the fence, buy just one, and see if the Jackhammer is your game changer. It's not for me.

From: Rufus: Texas 4/9/20

Comments:I'm not even going to try to expand on all the positive comments. All I'm going to say is that this is a game changer. I have tossed or given away all other bladed baits that I have ever owned and this is the only one that I will ever buy or use again. I would pay twice as much for this bait.

From: J: New York 3/20/20

Comments:Great hook (nearly impossible to rust), good enough hook keeper, paint comes off blade in time (if that is a deal breaker for you) but as some have stated, it is NOT tungsten.

From: Alex: 1/8/20

Comments:Worth every single dime. All of the comments you see on here about the price and difference in vibration, etc are due to the fact that it's a tungsten lure instead of lead. Tungsten is a more dense metal and transmits sound better than soft metals like lead. Bass set aside, I have caught 5 crappie all of which were over 12 inches long with a green pumpkin one. Definitely a staple bait.

From: Sam: Indiana 12/12/19

Comments:I mostly use swim jigs for the areas i fish and have seen people catch fish on chatterbaits. So i thought i would bite the bullet and purchased 2 jackhammers in different colors. I tied on the jackhammer when i arrived at the lake and wham, had a fish on first cast, followed buy the next 4 days fish on first cast. I will need to add more jackhammers to my arsenal.

From: Jim: Denver, CO 11/4/19

Comments: At first I thought spending twenty bucks on a chatter bait was ridiculous, but I bought one (all white, since that seems to be a good color hereabouts). I decided to test it up against the regular Z-Man chatterbaits I already had. First outing I used my old chatterbaits and got the usual results - one or two bass here and there. Then I tied on the Hammer and added a blue/silver Zako (I've been using Zakos on all my chatterbaits for a while now and they seem to consistently produce good results, as opposed to a bare hook). The Hammer brought in more bass than all the other chatterbaits combined. I'm sure the Zako was doing it's duty as well, since it does resemble local baitfish, but I was quite surprised by the results from the Hammer. So what is it about this chatterbait that makes it different from all the other ones? I'm no fishing scientist, but to me it seems there's more vibration. Also, you can tell that the Hammer is made from much better components than the cheaper Z-Mans. The Hammer is indeed more expensive, but the results speak for themselves. So I would recommend keeping a couple of these in your tackle box to make a day of fishing turn into an adventure.

From: Unknown: Michigan 10/17/19

Comments:good bait that catches fish, but after one fish, maybe 10 mins, on the black and blue all the black paint on the blade came off and is now all silver.still works fine but for $15 the paint should stay on the blade for at least 15 fish or a few trips out.

From: Unknown: 10/3/19

Comments:Have used many other chatterbaits here is the deal if your not catching fish your not where the fish are HANDS Down worth every penny. If you don't know how to fish it don'tblame the bait.

From: Brian: Guntersville, AL 9/26/19

Comments:Man. People sure are unlucky here, or else it's user error because I've caught 40+ bass and lots of pike in mine and it's help up fine (skirt). Don't know why everyone has this problem. BUT if it does bother you, take some 6-10 lb Fluoro and tie a uni knot on the skirt keeper to make sure it doesn't come off. Hook is a lighter wire but holds up fine which means you don't have to frog hookset. Starts up the minute you retrieve. Overall an awesome confidence bait especially if you have no luck with chatterbaits. I will say that your trailer will make or break you presentation. Don't throw a paddle tail on here. Opposite actions won't make it work. Will say that it is a tad bit overpriced, if they could get it for around $10-$12 tops, that'd be nice.

From: Terri: Minnesota 9/13/19

Comments:Bite has been really tough at my clear deep reservoir in the August heat.Decided to troll and got some nice bass on this bait in Spot remover.I put an original chatterbait on a second rod in white in the same 1/2 oz.Fished them side by side at the same time.Over 2 hours trolling at 1.3 mph I had two 3's and and three more that were 4+ all on the Jackhammer. The original chatterbait never got a hit.I would not have believed it if I had not done it myself.Go figure.Something is different that I cannot see or feel, but the fish can tell the difference.

From: Unknown: 9/1/19

Comments:Purchased 3 of these and used the white and chartreuse color in 3/8 Oz.First time using that color and paired it with a twin tail trailer.I dipped the tails in chartreuse paint. These will catch fish.Caught a walleye and musky and a catfish. Finally I was able to catch bass on the second day. These are very good baits

From: Unknown: Cadott, WI 9/8/19

Comments:Here's the deal. I have used many variations of bladed jigs over the years and the Zman have always shined above the rest. The Jack Hammer flat or takes the title belt of all bladed jigs. I have been playing with the Jack Hammer sparingly over the last year and have come to the conclusion I'll not be experimenting with any others going forward. I do not know if anyone can improve upon this design.

From: Billy:Wisconsin 8/5/19

Comments:I have fished the Original Chatterbait since it came out but recently tried the Jackhammer. This bait definitely runs better and creates better vibration.I did see better results with the Jackhammer.People have complained in previous reviews about the price, saying it is too high.I originally was turned off by the price. However, with the double trailer keeper you will go through a lot less trailers. So you will be saving money on trailers in the long run.Just my two cents.

Form: Bill: Pennsylvania  7/24/19

Comments:Truly just a flawlessly made masterpiece. This thing rumbles and stays consistent. Everything holds up to the big bites and the colorations and attention to details are bar one. Probably my favorite and only product I use from z-man. Hats off.

From: Tyler, California 7/10/19

Comments:Skirt came off after 30 casts, 20 bucks? Didn't even catch a fish on it.

From: Unknown: 7/5/19

Comments:I felt cursed by these and I almost gave up on them... Every time ive bought one I would lose it within the first 10 min of fishing it. Most the time I was getting an hung up or breaking it off during casting so my fault on the lure itself. well I was really timid to pay for another... Well I picked up 2 during the memorial day sale. Well I tied one on today after work and fished it for a about 20 min without a bite and then bam! I hooked into a 10lbs 6oz monster! Curse broken and a new PB!!

From: LeBarron: Riceboro, GA 6/5/19

Comments:I bought the Bruised Green Pumpkin color and paired it up with the Zako and and my fist fish was a chunky 6 pounder and I like 20 after that one of my best days on the bank I LOVE THIS BAIT! Definitely recommend for others who love bladed jigs.

From:Spencer G: Essexville, MI 5/30/19

Comments:Picked this up in green pumpkin and paired it with a Z-man razor shad trailer...its been a slay fest ever since. Something about this thing is different than the original and the custom and it is 100% worth spending the extra money on. I have waded out into deep water to get this thing out of a tree and dragged in basically a log that I got hung up on just to get it back when I got stuck. Will use this over any chatterbait as long as they continue to sell the. 10/10 reccomend. Thanks z-man from your loyal customer.

From: Justin Philadelphia, PA 5/6/19

Comments:I have been using the jackhammers for almost a year now and I absolutely love them. The quality is beyond any other bladed jig that I've come across and the few colors that are available are all very well done. Give us more color options ZMAN! I have tried only the 3/8 and 1/2 sizes. Both track well with no rise during steady retrieves. A few trailers that have worked for me are the Yamamoto Zako, Cowboy, and of course the ZMAN razr shad. I highly recommend these jigs.

From: Unknown 2/28/19

Comments:Keep leaving negative reviews. The less people using these baits the better it is for me when I have one tied on. If you don't want to pay the money for them that's fine but don't try to tell me there is a better bladed jig on the market. They swim great and they catch giants... Save your money, Ill buy them....

From: Jason:Boynton Beach FL 2/26/19

Comments:This is the BEST bladed jig on the market. The only complaint would be the price. However, if you look at it one way, you essentially pay for each fish you catch. 100 fish on this bait make each fish worth about 15 cents. Everyone has one of those $5 baits that they either barely use or only caught one or two on and you are paying $5 for one fish. Let that sink in.... Now go buy a bunch of jackhammers and quit complaining. Worth more than that price imo. Then those of you saying the skirts fall off. Out of the 8 I own, only one skirt has came off and I have continued to catch fish with just the head and a trailer. This gives a different approach than most anglers and will give the fish something new. PS: pair this with a zman razor shad trailer and you can catch about 100 fish before you need to change trailers... Even more money saved.

From: Unknown: Georgetown, SC2/19/19

Comments:Good bait but the skirts break up and fall off after skipping and catching few fish. Other brands better for the money.

From: Bret - Sandy Springs, GA 2/19/19

Comments:IMHO this thing is very overrated for the price. The Picasso or the blade runner are far superior in quality when you compare price to fish catching power and durability. I've got blade runners from several years ago that have held up far better than this thing. Oh! They DO catch fish but penny for penny - Gimme a Blade Runner or a Picasso.

From:Eddie 2/16/19

Comments:The lure 100% catches fish, but I wont spend $16+ when the quality isn't there and the original works as good at almost 1/3 the price. I have not have skirt issues falling but I'm not a fan of the skirt

From: Joey - Orlando, FL 2/13/19

Comments:Just not worth the price at all. Chatter baits are easy to snag & at $18ea I'll use an original. The Double keeper is the only positive this bait has over the original. Both vibrate as fast, personally I like the original skirt design better. I'll save $10 and use glue.

From: Chris - South Florida 2/13/19

Comments:The jack hammer is awesome. The only issue I have is the skirt. After a while they just fall apart and I have to put on a new one. For the price they should be much more durable.

From: Unknown: California 1/27/19

Comments:Really didn't like fishing bladed baits much due to having them blow out and rise on the retrieve. Can say I now enjoy fishing this bait and have it tied on at all times and have fished the same bait since February. Little bit of paint off the blade and had to sharpen the hook once or twice. Other then that this bait is the deal. No issues with this bait at all. Definitely have ordered more and am willing to pay the price for a bladed bait that will stay down and not blow out.

From: William:Long Beach9/9/18

Comments:Definitely bests chatterbait out there. Starts right away at the first reel turn. But ... quality is not there !!! On my first 3/8 jackhammer the skirt came off after 2 fishing sections. Yes , I am fishing over the weeds , but they should be holding better. Pain on the blade almost gone. Still CATCHING fish. From now on I have to do supper glue drop on each lure.

From:Steve: Sherman Oaks, CA 8/27/18

Comments:Hold it side by side to a strike king pure poison and you'll see where the inspiration came from. It's basically the best features of a pure poison combined with the best features of the Old pheonix vibrator with a better hook.Clearly Brett Hite had a hand in it's design. The original chstterbaits used to be nice if you got a 1/2oz but ever since the jackhammer came out zman started shaping the heads of the original ones different so they are now uneven swimming junk.Shady move by zman to push more people into the jackhammer.Good thing I have about 30 old pheonix vibrators.

From:Rj:Central PA8/8/18

Comments:Very nice bait and gets bit.The comments about lack of quality are spot on, anyone who hasn't run into problems with this bait are most likely pro staffers lying or they just haven't thrown the bait enough to experience the short comings. The skirts will eventually fall off after enough fish have been caught. However, I take a piece of copper wire and retie the skirt before I ever fish it.I also had a hook point roll, but that can happen with any bait.Kind of disappointing that this bait is made in China and not Japan considering the high price point.Even with the shortcomings, I think they are worth buying if you fish competitively. If you are just a fun fisherman, a regular chatterbait will still catch you a ton of fish.

From: Unknown 7/30/18

Comments:The skirt falls off the first day after catching only one small pike. The manufacturer should find a way to better secure the skirt. At this price point I expect better quality. The action of the lure in itself is great, its a really good chatterbait. Like another reviewer as suggested it is probably a good idea to add a supplemental tying wire.

From: Guy - Montreal, Canada 6/15/18

Comments:best chatter bait ever. period. i tried alot of bladed jigs and this one gets smoked regularly. pair it up with the zako . no complaints on quality they hold up great and i have really had no issues other than paint chipping off blade. bhite delight and green pumpkin shad are my favorite colors. price should be no more than 12 bucks though, 20 is kinda steep

From: Nick - Mesquite, TX 6/14/18

Comments:I have to agree that this bait lacks some simple design features that would make it better, especially for the price. The skirt will constantly get your pants pulled down. Since the skirt is hand tied, no quick fix on the water. If you try to utilize a skirt band, it will not stay up since there is no real defined shoulder on the shank. The shirt quality out of the package is of poor quality. Good bait, just has some frustrating design flaws. Not worth the price but since it is currently a "must have bait" they will sell. That will change in the near future.

From: Stein 3411:USA6/3/18

Comments:Awesome chatterbait but skirt comes off after 6 fish

From: Anthony:Fl5/21/18

Comments:Got one to see what the hype was about. Very first cast with one I caught a decent 3 lber. Made another couple dozen casts and got no more strikes on opening day. Went out tonight and before I even got to cast #10 the snap failed and my lure went flying across the lake. I've only fished D&M and Karu lures chatterbaits up until now and will be staying with those as the quality of their components is much better.

From:Chad: Lakeville, MN 5/17/18

Comments:Great action, stays down great it is by far the best chatterbait as far as how it performs. The bad part is that after catching 4 fish in a 3/8 jackhammer the skirt came off, now I'm sorry for $16 it should be near bulletproof.

From: Joel - Ohio 5/13/18

Comments:Beyond a doubt the best chatterbait made!!! Retrieve itany speed and it runs true. Caught a 6lb 7oz largemouth my first time using this lure.

From:Unknown: 4/24/18

Comments:Yup, one fish and the skirt was gone. will be wiring them on before another use. Great bait! but would expect it to already be wired.

From:Unknown: 4/23/18

Comments:Those of you that think it is lacking quality must have never fished the original chatter baits. This is BY FAR the best chatterbait produced. Hand tied skirt with a heavy duty snap and a strong Gammy hook. The grooved head is awesome and the painted stainless steel blades are great. Quality here is second to none. If youre looking to ball on a budget, get the customs. But if you want a superior bladed jig, this one is for you.

From: Durkio:IL4/12/18

Comments:Best chatterbait for getting bites; but poor job on quality of snap, skirt staying on, and bait keep not sliding. If they could upgrade the shortcomings; it would really be awesome. Would love to see a weed guard option like they are starting to do with some chatterbaits as well.

From: Josh:Dallas, TX3/25/18

Comments:As already stated here, this lure costs double of what it should. However, it DEFINITELY is the best vibrating jig on the market. The action on this lure outshines the others by far. Paired with a Zako it is unbelievable. And it runs true at any speed. Because of all these facts I will wince, cringe a little, and buy more. They are that good.

From: Rick - Shuqualak, MS 3/22/18

Comments: Fantastic lure, tough to get hung up, and works well even without a trailer (i've been experimenting...). However, if I'm paying 17 bucks for a chatterbait I think I should be getting fish even in crystal clear water, and should get me fish every other cast! Way too pricy

From: Zach: Washington, DC 3/16/18

Comments:It is a excellent bait. I usually throw the standard because the elite has way to long of a hook shank. the lure is a little pricey but that is probably because the two designers are getting a cut of it

From: Unknown 3/4/18

Comments:Ok where to start. This is the best chatter bait I have ever bought. I am a pond/river/lake fisherman use this chatter bait everywhere. Now I usually buy the Chatter bait Elite for fun fishing, but when I'm fishing tournament's which I do a lot i use the Jack hammer. I want the best quality hook, skirt, and features when I'm fishing to preform the best on the water. I was fishing a tournament with a ton of grass and me and my buddy where both throwing chatter baits. The difference was I was throwing the Jack hammer and he was throwing a elite. I caught 13 fish that day where he only caught 5. I would definitely recommend this chatter bait to everyone.

From:Anthony - New Jersey 12/22/17

Comments:The Evergreen/Zman Chatterbait is over priced. However, it is a effective lure for fishing Hydrilla and milfoil. It has a nice action. After reading the other reviews; I used a strand of copper wire to secure the skirt on to the keeper. No issues with the skirt falling off. as before, the price point is a issue for me...

From:Unknown - 12/8/17

Comments:Worked well and caught me a couple of fish but the skirt fell off expected more for it being a $16 chatterbait

From: Unknown - 12/6/17

Comments:It's a fish catching machine and it come threw the grass with ease, but for a bait that cost $16 one would think that the skirt wouldn't fall off or the hook flex open.

From: Adam: Eunice, La 11/25/17

Comments: I agree that $16 is expensive for a chatterbait . I have had one that the snap broke and I lost it in the lake also I've lost the skirt on one for which I put a replacement Zman skirt (no big deal). I fish 20-25 tournaments a year and used this bait extensively this Fall . My home lake is filled with Spots and the other 2 lakes have grass (one more than the other ) . This bait by far out fishes any other chatterbait . In a recent tournament I out fished my Co Angler 5 to 1 both of us were throwing chatterbaits and paralleling the same bank . I don't know why but you will catch more fish on this chatterbait than you will on the other brands . They come through both rock and grass better and the hook up ratio is better as well . I guess you get what you pay for

From: Unknown 11/10/17

Comments: Its definitely better than the original, but its not worth $16. Unless you need every advantage possible (like your fishing tournaments) stick with the original. This thing isn't worth more than $9 in my opinion. Dont get me wrong though, its still good, but unless its magic no chatterbait is never worth more than $10 lol.

From: Unknonwn 10/29/17

Comments:The best of the z man bladed jigs. I have not had any problems with the skirts and have caught many northern pike on them. Figured if any type of fish would put these to the test toothy pike would. The hook on these is high quality and the snap also. The action is different then the other z man baits and the vibration is crazy good. Hefty price tag but will be buying a couple more.

Comments: I've never been able to produce anything consistent with a bladed jig until this came along and wow, paired with the yamamoto zako its a fish catching machine. only complaint is the skirt falls apart after about 7 or 8 fish. at $16 a jig i expect a lil bit more durability out of it. That being said I will be buying more and some spare skirts.

Comments:16 dollar Chatterbait! I said no way! Then I started seeing a lot of pros that are not sponsored by them using them and making top 12s. I decided to give them a try and all I can say is wow! I don't know why but fish can't resist these. 16 bucks is pricy but it's worth it in my book now.

Comments:I have used every vibrating jig and this one is by far the best and worth paying the money for. Regular chatterbaits usually break at the line tie and are not very durable - this includes elite chatterbaits. Chatterbait freedom does not stay down when you reel it in. Strike king pure poison is strong at the line tie but has a thin blade that creates very little vibration. The jackhammer is simply a vibrating jig with no weakness. It is durable and creates a loud thump as you reel it in. It says down as you reel it in as well. Partnered with a Yamamoto Zako trailer, this vibrating jig is a fish catching machine. Worth every penny.

Comments: I purchased one of these and the hook started to rust and so did the hook eye. I will not be buying Z-man anymore

From: bob 7/30/17

Comments:Great bladed swim jig, a little more compact than most with good detail and action. Skirt did fall off after an hour or so of use but I called Z Man and they said this was an issue with initial production that has been fixed and they sent me a replacement.

From: Unknown - 7/24/17

Comments:For a chatterbait that's expensive the skirt comes off easily. I've had two skirts come off of the 3 i own. The only reason the third one still has the original skirt on is because i added a little super glue to it. It does run straight and catches fishes no doubt. Let's hope Z Man improves their skirts on these.

Comments:
Nobody has mentioned the profile on these baits which a HUGE factor. The profile is actually smaller it seems and the skirts in my opinion are better and more life like. I was using these with a combo keitech 2.8 fat swimbait trailer and crushing smallmouth, as opposed to other reviews I noticed I was getting atleast 2-3 more fish before having to switch to a different trailer. I don't care what anyone says, the trailer keepers on these are better than what they have been making, I am a hardcore chatterbait user. Lost the bait on a rock pile and switched to the same color custom Z-man and no bites. There is definitely something different about this bait that makes it worth getting some, but the price point is definitely unfair.

Comments:Best bladed jig for working grass. I had a skirt come untied on one after I caught four bass on it. Disappointing considering the price point on these.

Comments:Great bait but skirt fell off after third good fish!

From: Jeff - Louisiana 6/25/17

Comments:Definitely my favorite blades jig. This things dances and deflects off structure beautifully. Skirt will come off quickly... hopefully they fix that, but I'll still buy more regardless.

From: Sean: Muscatine, IA 6/11/17

Comments:I really liked the Jack Hammer. Caught a lot of fish on it, but the skirt did come off.

Comments:First cast of the season up here in WI and got a nice 2 lb. Water was only 54 degrees and had consistent action on a new lake I have never fished. Tipped with a Havoc Duece finished off the presentation This is a great search bait but yet is a slow presentation of needed to get cold water fish to hit it. Definitely going to fill a box with more of these.

From: Chad: WI 5/6/17

Comments: I didn't have any issues expressed by other fisherman with this bait. Yes, it is pricy but you get what you paid for. In the past, D&M Custom made the best chatterbait (IMO) until ZMan patient their product. Since then I had a hard time finding a good quality chatterbait until now. Its an amazing chatterbait and haters are going to hate.

Comments:Already caught multi 5-7lbers and even a 10. On the same jig Paired with a kitech or Zako trailer. And the jig is still in great condition. A few chip marks on the head but the skirt is holding up fine.

Comments:Excellent bait! Hunts like a quality squarebill or Rapala Scatter Rap. It's delivered a few key bites for me this Spring!

From: Michael: OH 4/22/17

Comments:Skirt fell off after two days of fishing, for $16 you'd expect a bit more.

From: Jacob - Michigan 4/17/17

Comments:This chatterbait is of the highest quality. If you're complaining of the price then zip your lip and move on down the road. The blade is key and the recessed head makes this thing hunt like a squarebill. The widegap hooks helps keep fish pinned and makes for deep penetration hooksets along with a sticky sharp hook. Hand tied skirts, quality snap, killer paint jobs....the hook keeper is alright bit thats not important to me. If you like quality baits you don't need to tune or mess with out of the package or fish for money....fill your boxes with these!

From: Aaron - Canton, OH 4/12/17

Comments:Same exact action as a Zman custom chatterbait. The paint on the head will come off within one trip. The only plus is the eyes, but I don't think that's worth $15.99. Will be buying 2 zman custom chatterbaits instead of 1 of these for the same price.

From: John: AZ 4/10/17

Comments:best blades jig around, no lie. Especially when matched up with a zako trailer. I have No idea why some of the comments said that the trailer doesn't last very long on the bait, but I beg to differ. The zako lasted forever on the chatterbait especially since I went on a day where chatterbait was the pattern. The chatterbait itself showed Durability and a quality finish. What I like most about the jack hammer is that it has a longer hook then the custom chatterbait and the trailer keeper doesn't keep any trailers from sliding up and down the hook. There is a con I have to point out was that after my 15th fish the skirt fell off, so I recommend to tie an extra knot over the "hand tied" skirt to keep you from losing your skirt. I don't mind paying $15 for lures especially if it's imported from Japan. Overall I'd give this chatterbait a 8.5/10

Comments: Very Disappointed, bought this Bait with Very High Expectations... But Cast after Cast I realized it constantly "Blew out" like a Crankbait out of Tune.. Could not keep it down in the Water Column or burn it either.. Gonna Buy 1 more to See if I just got a Fluke & Hopefully it will Perform Better..

From: Jon M Pensacola Fl 4/7/17

Comments:This thing is wicked. Far superior to other chatterbait. Other z man's don't compare. Everything about this bait screams quality. Caught a 8 lber yesterday using it.

From: Mike - Redding, CA 3/31/17

Comments: Got 5 in the mail yesterday, was super excited to fish them ever since I saw that they were being released in the States. The finish is great, swims great, action is awesome...but I couldn't keep a trailer on them for more than one fish, sometimes even having them rip off just from repeated casting. Using a Zako, which works great on the Customs and Elites but the keeper on the Jack Hammer just doesn't seem to hold them on. Not sure if it me, I've never been a fan of wire trailer keepers, but I'll (much to my disappointment) stick to the cheaper and more effective options!

From: Rob: Palm Beach Gardens, FL 3/29/17

Comments:Only negative I can write about this chatterbait is the price. Everything else about the chatterbait is top notch. I bought because I had to see what made this worth $16. Is it worth it? Probably not when you can buy a ZMan custom for $7 and that will catch bass. I will say this Jackhammer is the best chatterbait I've fished. Tight Lines

From: Ryan NJ 3/29/17

Comments:First time throwing it I was expecting it to walk great! I was wrong, you can walk the frog but it is tricky. If you are looking for a frog that can chug, you have the right lure in your hand!!!

From: Carsten: Florida 3/28/17

Comments:Just got them because I LOVE Chatterbaits and there just like the Custom's wouldn't waste your money on these baits
